An electrical connection with first and second electrical connectors are adapted to engage each other to form an electrical connection. An electrical wire is connected to each connector. At least one of the connectors has a contact formed of a conductive elastomeric material with conductive particles dispersed in the material, which is shaped to deform when compressed. When the first and second connector elements engage each other contact(s) formed of the elastomeric material will deform to cause electrically conductive particles in the elastomeric material to form an enhanced electrically conductive path through the elastomeric material.

The present invention relates to a seal for an electric cable that is connected to a second cable in a confined location, in which a first and second lengths of insulated electrical cable extend into a confined location and a connector connects the first and second lengths of cable, and a method for forming such a seal. A thin layer of conductive material covers a first portion of the first length of insulated electrical cable, with a second portion of the insulated electrical cable projecting beyond the conductive material for connection to the connector and providing an exposed end of the conductive material.

A scoring tool and method are described which are useful in removing a portion of an outer lead sheath of an electrical cable conductor. The tool includes a substantially C-shaped tool for straddling the conductor and a scoring wheel supported by the frame. The tool is used to form both longitudinal and circumferential score lines in the outer surface of the sheath. A strip formed between the longitudinal score lines can be gripped, rolled up and removed. The remaining portion of the lead on either side of the score lines can then be removed.

A method for inserting at least one conductor into an elongated length of metal coiled tubing, includes the steps of placing the coiled tubing in a substantially vertical passageway, inserting the conductor into the tubing, the leading end of the conductor including an elongated weight connected to the conductor, which weight is heavy enough to straighten the conductor enough to fall through the tubing, the weight having essentially no stiffness so that it is flexible enough to move through bends or irregularities in the tubing, allowing the conductor and weight to fall by gravity through the tubing, which has a sufficient helical pitch providing a hold-up force due to friction for preventing the conductors from breaking, until the desired length of conductor is inserted in the tubing, and removing the tubing with the conductor inside the tubing from the passageway and winding the tubing on a reel.

A system for separating particulate material from drilling fluid for underwater wells of the type which comprise an above-water drilling platform, a string of drill pipe extending from the platform to the subsea floor for drilling the well and an annulus extending into an earth formation beneath the subsea floor. The drill pipe runs through the annulus into the formation for drilling a well in the formation. Also included is a system for circulating a drilling fluid downwardly through the string of drill pipe and upwardly through the annulus for removing particulate material generated from drilling the well. The system further including a return conduit and pump for returning the drilling fluid to the water surface. The system comprises an expandable tank positioned on the subsea floor and connected between the annulus and the return conduit so that the drilling fluid flows through the tank. The tank is shaped and dimensioned to allow at least a substantial amount of particulate material to settle out of the drilling fluid as the fluid flows through the tank to the return conduit. The tank can also be used for separating particulate matter from drilling fluid for land wells; and as a storage tank for production wells, both subsea and on land.

An automated data transmission system for communicating warning signals and other information directly to law enforcement or security personnel in order to reduce response times. In the disclosed embodiment of the invention, sensing circuitry is added to a standard security system installed at an industrial or residential site. The sensing circuitry detects activation of the security system by sensing an outgoing warning call. Following activation of the security system, an automatic dialer or other automated transmitter circuitry is used to initiate a call to a processing computer at a predetermined phone number. The processing computer utilizes Caller ID.TM. information to determine the phone number assigned to the automatic dialer. The processing computer also maintains a database that associates assorted pieces of information with each phone number in the list, including the key map code location of the business, address of the protected business, name, date and time, and the phone number of a company contact. This information is communicated, through a paging service provider, to a dedicated group of one or more alphanumeric paging devices. The group of dedicated paging devices is provided to the law enforcement personnel assigned to protect the geographic region in which the secured industrial or residential site is located. Time-consuming human involvement in the notification process is thereby eliminated.

A ferrule-type fitting for forming a fluid-tight seal between an insulated electrical conductor extending from outside a well to a wellhead barrier and a rigid tube that surrounds the electrical conductor and extends through the wellhead barrier. A tubular body fitting with an elongated opening is sized and shaped to fit around the rigid tube. The opening includes a conical counter bored section adjacent to one end for forming a gap between the body fitting and the rigid tube. The body fitting includes an outer threaded surface on at least one end. A ring-shaped ferrule bushing formed of a material softer than the material of the rigid tube, is sized and shaped to fit around the rigid tube and interface to the conical bore section within the gap. A nut fitting includes a threaded inner surface for engaging the outer threaded surface of the body fitting and a shoulder engages the ferrule bushing so that the ferrule bushing is deformed to engage and crimp the rigid tube for providing a fluid-tight seal between the inner surface of the rigid tube and the insulated electrical connection after the nut fitting is tightened onto the body fitting. The ferrule bushing does not permanently engage the rigid tube, but returns to its original shape so it can be removed from the rigid tube when the nut fitting is loosened and removed from the body fitting.

The present invention relates to a transition for electrical well cable through the wellhead barrier of an underground well leading to an electrical power cable connected to an above-ground electrical power source, where the only connection between the electrical well cable and the electrical power cable is formed outside the wellhead barrier within an area adjacent to the wellhead barrier classified as a hazardous location, the connection being listed and approved for hazardous locations by a nationally recognized testing laboratory, and a method of forming the transition. A confined seal is located in the well around the electrical well cable for blocking the flow of fluid both into and out of the well.

A protective sheath for protecting and separating a plurality of insulated conductors from a single cable includes a layer of protective armor surronding all of the conductors extending from down hole along production tubing in an underground well. The protective armor terminates at a separating point of the cable conductors so that the plurality of cable conductors are separated into individual cable conductors. The sheath includes a hollow tube for enclosing the plurality of insulated cable conductors and protective armor. A plurality of individual tubes are formed integrally with and endose one end of the rigid tube so that each one of the plurality of cable conductors is routed into a separate rigid tube so that each one of the plurality of rigid tubes encloses a corresponding one of the individual cable conductors. The rigid tube and individual rigid tubes are sized to confine but not engage the conductors when the well is pressurized for preventing excessive expansion of the insulation on the conductors on the well depressurization.

A rigid tubular outer sleeve encloses the rubber boot and has an upper end engaging the top stop. The top stop is attached to the outer protective sleeve and a tubular bottom stop has a hole for receiving the down hole cable conductor. The bottom stop engaging and confining a lower end of the rubber boots. The outer sleeve engages the bottom stop and the top and bottom stops and outer sleeve confine and prevents significant expansion of the rubber boots.
