The present application relates to controllers using current mode control to control the operation of switching power supplies such as DC-DC converters. The application provides an inductor current.

Inductor current emulator

An apparatus comprises a power converter circuit and a controller. The power converter circuit includes an inductor, a switching circuit, and a digital control loop circuit having an adjustable transfer function, wherein the transfer function includes a zero variable and a signal gain variable. The controller includes a tuning module configured to set a value for the zero variable, set the signal gain variable to a first gain value, determine a control error for the first gain value setting, wherein the control error is a difference between a reference current and a load current at a circuit load, iteratively update the gain value of the signal gain variable and determine the control error for the updated gain value, and set an operating gain value of the signal gain variable to the gain value corresponding to a minimum control error.

The present subject matter discusses, among other things, apparatus and methods for a delay line. In an example, a delay device can include a first node, a plurality of variable capacitor circuits configured to receive a capacitance set point voltage, a current source, a plurality of switches configured to selectively couple a respective variable capacitor of the plurality of variable capacitors to the first node, an input switch configured to receive an input signal and to couple and decouple the current source to the first node responsive to a state of the input signal, and a comparator configured to receive a reference voltage, to receive a voltage from the first node, and to provide an binary output indicative of a comparison between the reference voltage and the voltage from the first node, wherein the binary output is a delayed representation of the input signal.

Method and apparatus for high resolution delay line

Low-cost switching converter systems are provided which combine analog generation of a current signal with digital generation of a loop error signal that is realized with a control loop that includes a high-resolution, low-bandwidth sigma-delta modulator and a low-resolution digital-to-analog converter. The current signal and error signal are differenced to provide a control signal to the switching converter. This economical system structure facilitates quick and easy digital alteration of system parameters (e.g., loop compensation and voltage reference). System embodiments add a high-frequency analog feedback path in parallel with the control loop to supplement and enhance its control performance.
