Apparatus, method(s), and system(s) according to which electric power is generated in one or more coils by rotating a magnetic field generated by one or more permanent magnets. The one or more coils are connected to a collar. The collar is positioned downhole in an oil and gas wellbore. The one or more permanent magnets are connected to a rotor positioned within an internal passageway of the collar. A fluid is communicated along the internal passageway of the collar. The rotor, and thus the magnetic field generated by the one or more permanent magnets, are rotated using the fluid communicated along the internal passage.

Downhole power and communications system(s) and method(s) of using same

Systems, devices, and methods for producing a three-dimensional visualization of one or more of a drilled wellbore, a bottom hole assembly, a drill bit, a drill plan, and one or more lithology windows is provided for drill steering purposes. A drilling motor with a toolface in communication with a sensor system is provided. A controller in communication with the sensor system is operable to generate a depiction of the drill plan, a depiction of the drilling motor, and one or more lithology windows, and to combine these depictions in a three-dimensional visualization of the down hole environment. This visualization may be used by an operator to steer the drilled wellbore.

Apparatuses, methods, and systems are described herein for transmission of measurement while drilling (MWD) data from a MWD tool to a receiver. Such apparatuses, methods, and systems may modify MWD data to allow for transmission of the modified MWD data in a manner that conserves electrical power of the MWD tool. For example, the MWD data can be modified to allow for effectively slower transmission of the data while adhering to existing transmission settings. Furthermore, a MWD tool can communicate data to modify transmission settings between the MWD tool and a rig controller. The rig controller can then adjust settings of the rig and transmit corresponding communications to the MWD tool to modify settings of the MWD tool. Such techniques allow for MWD data to be conveyed in an electrically efficient manner, reducing maintenance and recharging requirements of the MWD tool.

Power saving telemetry systems and methods

A drilling rig apparatus is disclosed for improving autodriller control during directional drilling. A BHA determines a relationship between downhole WOB and downhole differential pressure and sends the relationship to a surface controller. The relationships may be sent on a set periodic basis or dynamically in response to the relationships over time differing from each other above a threshold amount. The surface controller estimates downhole WOB by inputting surface differential pressure into a formula implementing the relationship from downhole. The estimated downhole WOB is input into the autodriller for control and is used to estimate MSE. Downhole WOB, either estimated or actual values, may further be used to determine a ratio between downhole WOB and surface-determined WOB values. If the ratio falls below zero in comparison to a prior ratio, then a slack-off rate is adjusted until the ratio reaches zero or a positive value again.

Surface control system adaptive downhole weight on bit/torque on bit estimation and utilization

Systems, devices, and methods for performing surveys are provided. A first set of surveys may be performed during a drilling operation on a drilling rig. A tubular may be removed from a drill string, and a second set of surveys may be performed during a tripping out operation on the drilling rig, such that the first set of surveys is offset from the second set of surveys. A tubular may be added to the drill string, and a third set of surveys may be performed during a tripping in operation on the drilling rig, such that the third set of surveys is offset from the first set of surveys and the second set of surveys.

Methods and devices to perform offset surveys

Systems and methods for directional drilling are described. The system includes one or more controllers and is configured to receive data from a plurality of downhole sensors, provide operational control signals, determine a relationship between different parameters, receive current data including at least one of current differential pressure (DP), weight-on-bit (WOB), or rotations per minute (RPM) of a drill bit, and estimate at least one of current toolface orientation or current shock and vibration of the drill bit using the current data and the determined relationship. The system is further configured to provide operational control signals that may adjust the current toolface orientation to a desired toolface orientation. Current WOB and/or current RPM are adjusted to minimize current shock and vibration of a portion of a bottom hole assembly (BHA).
