In the making of a frame for a fishing reel of the multiplier type, a tubular aluminum section is produced by extrusion. The aluminum section is cut to length corresponding to the width of the frame to be made, this length being thereafter processed to form a frame.

Method for making a frame for fishing reels of the multiplier type

A fishing reel of the multiplier type comprises a rotatable line spool which is mounted on a shaft. A clutch member having a gear is mounted on the shaft. The gear meshes with a driving gear which is rotatable by means of a handle. The clutch member is displaceable along the shaft between an engaging position, in which it is connected to the line spool for rotation thereof, and a disengaging position, in which it is disconnected from the line spool. The clutch member is displaceable from its first to its second position by means of a trigger which actuates a clutch mechanism for displacement of the clutch member. The clutch mechanism comprises a disk which is turnable by the trigger and has ramp elements for cooperation with ramp elements on a yoke supporting the clutch member. The disk cooperates with a spring assembly having a cam curve with a first cam surface, a second cam surface and an intermediate crest. The cam curve is resiliently pressed against a guide pin arranged on the disk for pressing the disk to one or the other of two end turning positions, in dependence on which of the cam surfaces engages the guide pin.

Fishing reel of the multiplier type

A fishing reel of the multiplier type has a frame with two detachable, inner side plates, each having a through opening, and two detachable outer side plates. A line spool is rotatably mounted in the frame between the two inner side plates and has, in the vicinity of each of its ends, a circumferential, substantially radial end flange. The line spool is nonrotatably mounted on a shaft, which extends freely through the openings in the two inner side plates. Each inner side plate has a circumferential, axially inwardly directed flange surrounding the respective end flange of the line spool, and an axially directed first sleeve element coaxial with the line spool. At each end, the line spool has a protruding second sleeve element which is coaxial with the line spool and rotatably mounted in the first sleeve element of the corresponding inner side plate by a ball bearing.

A fishing reel of the multiplier type has a frame, a line spool having a center bore and rotatably mounted in the frame, and a shaft, on which the line spool is mounted. The line spool has, at least at one of its ends, a shaft member which is inserted a distance into the center bore of the line spool from a respective end thereof so as to protrude a predetermined distance therefrom.

A gear unit for a multiplier type fishing reel is arranged to drive the line spool of the fishing reel. The gear unit has a main shaft rotated by a handle. Two driving gears of different diameters are rotatably mounted on and frictionally coupled thereto by two sets of friction washers. The larger driving gear meshes with the gear drive of the line spool. Two adjusting knobs are provided for setting the frictional force exerted on the larger driving gear at a first value, and the frictional force exerted on the smaller driving gear at a second value exceeding the first value. Two driven gears of different diameter are rotatably mounted on a first spindle parallel to the main shaft and biased toward each other by a spring. The smaller driven gear meshes with the larger driving gear, and the larger driven gear meshes with the smaller driving gear. Cam surfaces are formed at the ends of the driven gears facing each other and are so designed that when the smaller driven gear rotates relative to the larger driven gears in one direction, they disengage the two driven gears from each other by urging them axially away from each other, and when the larger driven gear rotates relative to the smaller driven gear in this direction, they drivingly couple the two driven gears with each other.

A magnetic brake for braking the line spool of a fishing reel with magnetic braking automatically adjusted in dependence upon the speed of rotation of the line spool. A magnetic support for magnets is rotatable in one direction by the reactive force of the braking torque on the magnet support and in the opposite direction by an adjustable spring load. The reactive force of the braking torque tends to displace the magnet support in a direction to move the magnet poles away from a surface rotating together with the line spool, while the spring load tends to displace the magnet support in the opposite direction to decrease the distance between pole ends and the rotating surface moving with the line spool. Inclined camming grooves in one embodiment move along a guide pin to cause the rotating action of the magnet support to move the support in an axial direction. Another embodiment uses a sector support with magnets radially extending from the support and moving toward and away from a flanged surface while mounted on an eccentrically mounted sector.

Magnetic brake for a fishing reel

A fishing reel comprising a frame, a line spool rotatably and releasably mounted in the frame and an induction-type magnetic brake for braking the fishing reel during casting is disclosed, in which a number of permanent magnets are mounted on a support which is easily releasably fixed to one end of the frame and encloses an opening therein, and in which the pole support is easily removable together with the magnet poles as a unit for uncovering said opening, and said opening is of a sufficient dimension to permit withdrawal of the line spool through the uncovered opening. In the preferred embodiment, the magnet support also forms a support for one end of a spindle which supports the line spool in the reel frame.

Magnetic brake for braking the line spool of a fishing reel

An induction-type magnetic brake for braking the line of a fishing reel during casting is disclosed, in which a number of permanent magnets are supported by an annular support which is carried in a coaxial position relative to the axis of rotation of the line spool near the outer side of one end wall of the line spool, and in which each permanent magnet is supported by the annular support such that one pole face of the magnet faces the spool end wall, the distance between the pole face and the end wall being adjustable by axial adjustment of the permanent magnet by means of a knob readily accessible on the outer side of the fishing reel.

The disclosure relates to an apparatus for the disengagement of the line spool in relation to a transmission driven by a crank by means of a manually actuable operating member, and for automatic reengagement of the line spool and the transmission by means of the crank on rotation thereof for retrieval of the line on the line spool. The characterizing feature of the invention is that a locking mechanism for retaining the clutch between the line spool and the transmission driven by the crank includes a locking arm which is movably carried on a pivotally mounted lever in an arm system, and is disposed, on pivoting of the lever by means of the operating member for switching the arm system and the clutch from the engagement position to the disengagement position against the action of spring biasing, to be moved on the lever to a position for engagement with the locking member, and has means for realizing, by engagement with the locking member and the lever, a mutual locking of the mutually movable lever and locking arms until the locking member is once again rotated by means of the crank. As a result of this arrangement, use may be made, for the locking member, of a ratchet included in a known non-reverse mechanism for the crank.

The invention relates to a fishing reel having a rotatable line spool, a hand crank and a transmission connected with the line spool through a disengageable clutch, and comprising a clutch engaging and disengaging device, a hand operated actuating member for disengaging, means for disengageably locking said device in the disengaged position, and spring biased returning means for reengaging said clutch in said device; the improvement being characterized by a blocking device comprising a first member which is movable with a movable part of said engaging and disengaging device, and a manually operable second member which is pivotable manually between two positions and is arranged such that, in one position, it permits unhindered disengaging operation of the clutch engaging and disengaging device and also of the locking operation of the locking device, and, in the other position, restricts the freedom of motion for said disengaging operation in a position in which said locking operation of the locking device is prevented, whereby returning of said blocking device permits spring operated returning of the engaging and disengaging device into the engaged position without any unlocking operation of said locking device.

The disclosure relates to a centrifugal brake for the line spool in a fishing reel, the characterizing feature of the invention being that the line spool carries at least two brake weights pivotally mounted on the spool, the brake weights being pivotal in axial planes which are parallel to the shaft of the line spool, and that the frame of the reel carries an axially adjustable but otherwise stationary brake surface for braking cooperation with the brake weights.
