A wellbore sealing system is disclosed. The wellbore sealing system includes a deflection assembly positioned in a main wellbore and a junction coupled to an uphole end of the completion deflector and extending into the lateral wellbore to form a fluid and pressure tight seal. The deflection assembly includes a degradable whipstock configured to laterally deflect a drill bit such that the drill bit drills through a sidewall of the main wellbore to form a lateral wellbore, a completion deflector coupled to and located downhole from the whipstock, and an anchoring device coupled to and located downhole from the completion deflector to prevent the deflection assembly from rotating and moving in an uphole direction and a downhole direction within the main wellbore.

Assemblies and methods are provided for positioning a sealing tool within a receptacle and pressure testing a seal between the sealing tool and the receptacle. The assembly may be coupled to the sealing tool for latching the sealing tool into the receptacle. The assembly may include a projection that is movable between a coupled position and an uncoupled position. In the coupled position, the projection may couple the assembly to the sealing tool. In the uncoupled position, the projection may be positioned such that the assembly is not coupled to the sealing tool. The projection may move from the coupled position to the uncoupled position in response to determining a seal is established between the sealing tool and the receptacle.

Methods and assemblies for running and testing tools

A deflector assembly includes an upper deflector arranged within a main bore of a wellbore, the upper deflector having a guide spring. The guide spring includes a ramped surface. A lower deflector is arranged within the main bore, the lower deflector defining a first conduit and a second conduit. One of the first and second conduits is in communication with a lower portion of the main bore and another of the first and second conduits is in communication with a lateral bore. The upper and lower deflectors are configured to direct a bullnose assembly into either the lateral bore or the lower portion of the main bore based on a size of a bullnose tip of the bullnose assembly.

Deflector assembly for a lateral wellbore

A deflector assembly includes an upper deflector arranged within a main bore of a wellbore, the upper deflector having first and second plates spaced apart by a distance. At least one of the first and second plates includes a ramped surface. A lower deflector is arranged within the main bore, the lower deflector defining a first conduit and a second conduit. One of the first and second conduits is in communication with a lower portion of the main bore and another of the first and second conduits is in communication with a lateral bore. The upper and lower deflectors are configured to direct a bullnose assembly into either the lateral bore or the lower portion of the main bore based on a size of a bullnose tip of the bullnose assembly.

An example latch coupling assembly includes a latch coupling defining an inner latch profile and an expandable sleeve coupled to the latch coupling. A latch defining an outer latch profile is mateable with the inner latch profile, and a mandrel is at least partially extendable within the expandable sleeve. An expansion cone is moveable along the mandrel between a first position, where the expansion cone is positioned within the expandable sleeve, and a second position, where the expansion cone is moved into engagement with an inner radial surface of the expandable sleeve to radially expand the expandable sleeve into engagement with a casing string and thereby secure the latch coupling within the casing string.

A method includes introducing a bullnose assembly into a main bore of a wellbore, the bullnose assembly including a body and a bullnose tip actuatable between a default configuration, where a collet body forming part of the bullnose tip exhibits a first diameter, and an actuated configuration, where the collet body exhibits a second diameter different than the first diameter. The bullnose assembly is then advanced to a deflector arranged within the main bore and defining a first channel that exhibits a predetermined diameter and communicates with a lower portion of the main bore, and a second channel that communicates with a lateral bore. The bullnose assembly is then directed into either the lower portion of the main bore or the lateral bore based on a diameter of the collet body as compared to the predetermined diameter.

Expandable bullnose assembly for use with a wellbore deflector

A well system includes a deflector arranged within a main bore of a wellbore and defining a first channel that exhibits a predetermined diameter and communicates with a lower portion of the main bore, and a second channel that communicates with a lateral bore. A bullnose assembly has a bullnose tip, a piston movably arranged within the bullnose tip, and a wedge member operatively coupled to the piston such that movement of the piston correspondingly moves the wedge member. A coil is arranged about the bullnose tip and in contact with the wedge member, and the piston is actuatable to move the wedge member and thereby radially expand the coil. When the coil is radially expanded, the diameter of the bullnose tip exceeds the predetermined diameter.

A wellbore system includes an upper deflector arranged within a main bore of a wellbore and defines first and second channels. A lower deflector is arranged within the main bore and spaced from the upper deflector by a predetermined distance and defines a first conduit exhibiting a predetermined diameter and communicating with a lower portion of the main bore and a second conduit that communicates with a lateral bore. A bullnose assembly includes a body and a bullnose tip arranged at a distal end of the body, the bullnose assembly being actuatable between a default configuration and an actuated configuration. The upper and lower deflectors direct the bullnose assembly into one of the lateral bore and the lower portion of the main bore based on a length and a diameter of the bullnose tip as compared to the predetermined distance and the predetermined diameter, respectively.

Expandable and variable-length bullnose assembly for use with a wellbore deflector assembly

A multi-deflector assembly for guiding a bullnose assembly into a selected borehole within a wellbore includes an upper deflector arranged within a main bore of a wellbore and defining first and second channels that extend longitudinally through the upper deflector, wherein the second channel exhibits a width greater than that of the first channel. A lower deflector is arranged within the main bore and spaced from the upper deflector by a predetermined distance. The lower deflector defines a first conduit that communicates with a lower portion of the main bore and a second conduit that communicates with a lateral bore. The upper and lower deflectors are configured to direct a bullnose assembly into one of the lateral bore and the lower portion of the main bore based on a length of a bullnose tip of the bullnose assembly as compared to the predetermined distance.

A wellbore system includes an upper deflector arranged within a main bore and defines first and second channels that extend longitudinally therethrough. A lower deflector is arranged within the main bore and spaced from the upper deflector by a predetermined distance. The lower deflector defines a first conduit that communicates with a lower portion of the main bore and a second conduit that communicates with a lateral bore. A bullnose assembly includes a body, a bullnose tip arranged at a distal end of the body, and a sleeve member arranged about the body. The sleeve member or the bullnose tip is axially movable to vary a length of the bullnose tip, and the upper and lower deflectors direct the bullnose assembly into the lateral bore or the lower portion of the main bore based on the length of the bullnose tip.

Adjustable bullnose assembly for use with a wellbore deflector assembly

Disclosed are embodiments of expandable bullnose assemblies for use in a well system. One well system includes a deflector arranged within a main bore of a wellbore and defining a first channel that exhibits a predetermined diameter and communicates with a lower portion of the main bore, and a second channel that communicates with a lateral bore, and a bullnose assembly including a body and a bullnose tip arranged at a distal end of the body, the bullnose tip being actuatable between a default configuration, where the bullnose tip exhibits a first diameter, and an actuated configuration, where the bullnose tip exhibits a second diameter different than the first diameter, wherein the deflector is configured to direct the bullnose assembly into one of the lateral bore and the lower portion of the main bore based on a diameter of the bullnose tip as compared to the predetermined diameter.

A deflector assembly includes two deflectors that can cooperate for directing a bullnose assembly toward an intended bore in a multi-bore well based on a configuration of the bullnose assembly without requiring use of gravitational forces or requiring the assembly to be oriented in a certain manner. The deflectors can cooperate by being spaced by a certain amount that, depending on if the amount is less than or greater than a longitudinal length and diameter of a bullnose of the bullnose assembly, can allow the bullnose assembly to be diverted toward the intended bore.
