A method and a device for induced formation of solid lubricant comprises providing (S) of an article () to be processed. The article is exposed (S) to a process fluid () comprising a solvent, impact media () and additives of solid-lubricant precursor substances. The solvent is a low-volatile high-flash solvent. The impact media are non-abrasive hard particles. The additives of solid-lubricant precursor substances are surface-reactive compounds serving as carriers of at least one of S, P, B and of at least one refractory metal. A velocity difference between surfaces () of the article and the impact media is created (S). This causes impacts between the impact media and the article. Solid lubricant substances are formed (S) on the surfaces by chemical reactions. The chemical reactions comprise the solid-lubricant precursor substances and are induced by the energy of the impacts. The chemical reactions take place at the surfaces of the article.

Induced formation of solid lubricant

A method for manufacturing of steel articles comprises nitriding () a steel article at a nitrification temperature in the interval 350-650&#xb0; C., giving a nitrided steel article. The nitrided steel article is quenched () in a reactive quenching oil from the nitrification temperature. The reactive quenching oil comprises at least one of S, P, B, Mo and W. Thereby, the quenching additionally comprises coating () of the nitrided steel article by a solid lubricant comprising at least one of S, P, B, Mo and W. An apparatus for manufacturing of steel articles, a quenching oil and a steel article produced by the method are also disclosed.

Mechanochemical conditioning tool

A manufacturing method for providing a low-friction surface comprises providing () of a mechanical element. A tool is mechanically rubbed () against a surface of the mechanical element. A process liquid is provided () to a contact area between the mechanical element and the tool. The process liquid comprises a first element that is a refractory metal and a second element that is a chalcogen. The first and second elements are provided in a liquid substance. The mechanical rubbing is performed with a contact pressure that is between 1% and 100% of an ultimate strength of the mechanical element. The mechanical rubbing thereby causes a combined burnishing of the surface of the mechanical element and a deposition of a tribofilm on the surface of the mechanical element. The tribofilm comprises the first element and the second element.
