Boiler systems and associated control systems, methods for operating same, are described herein. In one example embodiment, a boiler system includes a furnace, an exhaust passage, an air passage, a FGR passage, a flue gas valve that is adjustable by way of a first actuator, a NOgas sensor, an oxygen gas sensor, and an additional valve that is adjustable by way of a second actuator. Further, the boiler system includes at least one processing device coupled to the NOgas sensor, the oxygen gas sensor, the first actuator and the second actuator. The at least one processing device is configured to generate control signals that are provided to the first actuator and second actuator, and also configured to generate correction factors by way of a calibration process and to utilize one or more of the correction factors in determining one or more of the control signals.

Boiler system and method of operating same

In one example embodiment of a hydronic heating system, the system includes at least one condensing boiler and at least one non-condensing boiler, and at least one controller configured for utilizing at least one PID control program to generate at least one signal for controlling firing rates of one or more of the boilers based upon sensed water temperature and temperature setpoint inputs. Depending upon the mode of operation, the at least one PID control program is a first PID control program dedicated to controlling only the at least one condensing boiler, or is a second PID control program dedicated to controlling only the at least one non-condensing boiler, or includes both the first and second PID control programs. Also, outside air temperature serves as a basis for generating the temperature setpoint inputs.

System and method of controlling condensing and non-condensing boiler firing rates

Hydronic heating systems, controllers for such systems, and methods of using/operating same are disclosed herein. In one example embodiment, such a system includes at least one condensing boiler and at least one non-condensing boiler, and at least one controller configured for utilizing at least one PID control program to generate at least one signal for controlling firing rates of one or more of the boilers based upon sensed water temperature and temperature setpoint inputs. Depending upon the mode of operation, the at least one PID control program is a first PID control program dedicated to controlling only the at least one condensing boiler, or is a second PID control program dedicated to controlling only the at least one non-condensing boiler, or includes both the first and second PID control programs. Also, outside air temperature serves as a basis for generating the temperature setpoint inputs.

A software-based water level monitoring and control system, preferably for use with conventional steam boilers, is disclosed. The system includes software for monitoring and recording system functions, safety features, diagnostic testing histories, and other functions. The water level system is employed to monitor and/or regulate one or more operating parameters of the boiler, such as water levels within the boiler. In response to the boiler system testing of low-water cut-off, auxillary low-water cut-off, and pressure vessel float operation and functionality, the software builds histories and other data compilations. The extensive electronic information permits a user that accesses the water level control system to, for example, view the data compilations and to monitor the status of the system. In this manner, real-time information, as well as the historical data, are available to accomplish the regulation of key parameters in the boiler.

Boiler water level monitoring and control system

Apparatus is provided for controlling the burning of a volatile waste liquid together with a conventional fuel in a boiler in the form of a free-standing module which contains a flow-control valve for the waste liquid. This system includes a means for monitoring the position to the fuel-control valve for the conventional fuel and a separate means for monitoring the position of a controlled valve for feeding of the volatile liquid. The two monitoring means are coupled and comparisons are made of the relative valve positions indicated thereby. The process controller used for such comparison contols a valve which stops the flow of volatile liquid to the burner in the event that more than a predetermined discrepancy occurs between the indicated valve positions. Said controller may also be employed to correct the valve position. Other features include a reverse purge pumping system which is actuated upon shutdown of volatile fuel flow. Additionally, the entire operating range of the control valve for the volatile liquid can be shifted so that volatile fuels of varying calorific values can be accomodated.
