Polyalkyl(meth)acrylate based polymers which include straight chained Calkyl(meth)acrylates and have an average carbon number of 7.0 to 7.5 and a weight-average molecular weight of 300,000 g/mol or greater are a useful component for a lubricant composition. Furthermore, lubricant compositions containing such polymers show improved high temperature-high shear performance, especially in engine oil (EO) compositions.

Viscosity index improvers

Polyalkyl(meth)acrylates contain specified amounts of long-chain alkyl (meth)acrylates and functional monomers. Lubricant compositions can contain such polyalkyl(meth)acrylates, and the polyalkyl(meth)acrylates can be used as viscosity index (VI) improvers with good fuel economy as well as soot-dispersant function. The polyalkyl(meth)acrylates can provide equal or even unproved deposits in lubricant compositions, especially in engine oil (EO) compositions.

Polyalkyl(meth)acrylates for improving fuel economy, dispersancy and deposits performance

The invention relates to random copolymers comprising monomers derived from conjugated dienes and alkyl (meth)acrylates, a method for manufacturing the copolymers, lubricant compositions comprising the copolymers, and the use of the copolymers as additives for lubricant compositions or as a base oil for lubricant compositions. The copolymers are favorably used for driving system lubricating oils, hydraulic oils, engine oils and industrial oil formulations.

Random copolymers for use as base oils or lubricant additives

The present invention relates to a lubricant composition comprising at least one polyalkyl(meth)acrylate including repeating units derived from (meth)acrylates having 6 to 22 carbon atoms in the alcohol radical, wherein the polyalkyl(meth)acrylate includes repeating units derived from ethylenically unsaturated monomers having at least one covalently bonded phosphorus atom. The present invention further relates to a polyalkyl(meth)acrylate suitable for such a lubricant composition and to the use of a polyalkyl(meth)acrylate having repeating units derived from ethylenically unsaturated monomers having at least one covalently bonded phosphorus atom for reducing friction.

Lubricant composition with phosphorus-functionalized polymers

The present invention relates to the use of comb polymers comprising, in the main chain, repeat units which are derived from polyolefin-based macromonomers, and repeat units which are derived from low molecular weight monomers selected from the group consisting of styrene monomers having 8 to 17 carbon atoms, alkyl (meth)acrylates having 1 to 10 carbon atoms in the alcohol group, vinyl esters having 1 to 11 carbon atoms in the acyl group, vinyl ethers having 1 to 10 carbon atoms in the alcohol group, (di)alkyl fumarates having 1 to 10 carbon atoms in the alcohol group, (di)alkyl maleates having 1 to 10 carbon atoms in the alcohol group and mixtures of these monomers, where the molar degree of branching is in the range of 0.1 to 10 mol % and the comb polymer comprises a total of at least 80% by weight, based on the weight of the repeat units, of repeat units which are derived from polyolefin-based macromonomers and repeat units which are derived from low molecular weight monomers selected from the group consisting of styrene monomers having 8 to 17 carbon atoms, alkyl (meth)acrylates having 1 to 10 carbon atoms in the alcohol group, vinyl esters having 1 to 11 carbon atoms in the acyl group, vinyl ethers having 1 to 10 carbon atoms in the alcohol group, (di)alkyl fumarates having 1 to 10 carbon atoms in the alcohol group, (di)alkyl maleates having 1 to 10 carbon atoms in the alcohol group and mixtures of these monomers, for reducing the fuel consumption of vehicles.

Use of comb polymers for reducing fuel consumption

The invention relates to a polyalkyl (meth) acrylate for improving lubricating oil properties, which comprises repetition units which are derived from (meth) acrylates having 6 to 22 carbon atoms in the alcohol residues, and repetition units which are derived from amine derivatives of an ethylenically unsaturated monomer. The invention further relates to methods for producing and using the present polyalkyl (meth) acrylate.

In a second stage, a monomer composition B) containing 20 to 100 percent by weight of at least one monomer that comprises at least one nitrogen-containing group is grafted onto the graft basis in order to reduce wear in lubricant oil compositions. Said graft polymer comprises a maximum of 200 ppm of sulfur while the weight ratio between monomer composition A) and monomer composition B) ranges between 99.7:0.3 and 80:20.

Use of graft polymers

Copolymers are obtainable by polymerizing a monomer composition composed of a) 0% to 40% by weight of one or more ethylenically unsaturated ester compounds of the formula (I), b) 10% to 99.9% by weight of one or more ethylenically unsaturated ester compounds of the formula (II), c) 0% to 80% by weight of one or more ethylenically unsaturated ester compounds of the formula (III), d) 0.1% to 30% by weight of one or more ethylenically unsaturated, polar ester compounds of the formula (IV), e) 0% to 50% by weight of comonomer, based in each case on the total weight of the ethylenically unsaturated monomers.

Polyalkyl (meth)acrylate copolymers having outstanding properties

The invention relates to a lubricating oil composition with good frictional properties, the composition having a lubricating oil and at least one additive having friction-reducing properties. The additive with friction-reducing properties is a block copolymer having hydrophobic segments P and polar segments D. The hydrophobic segments are obtained by polymerization of monomer compositions having a) between 0 and 40 wt. %, in relation to the weight of the monomer compositions for producing the hydrophobic segments, of at least one ethylenically unsaturated ester compound of formula (I), in which R represents hydrogen or methyl, Rrepresents a linear or branched alkyl radical having between 1 and 5 carbon atoms, and Rand Rindependently represent hydrogen or a group of formula &#x2014;COOR', in which R&#x2032; represents hydrogen or an alkyl group having between 1 and 5 carbon atoms.

Lubricating oil composition with good frictional properties

(EN) The invention relates to a polymer comprising 50-100% by weight, with regard to the weight of the polymers, of repeating units, which are derived from one or more ethylenically unsaturated ester compounds of formula (I), in which R represents hydrogen or methyl; Rrepresents a linear or unbranched alkyl radical with 7 to 30 carbon atoms, and; Rand Rindependently represent hydrogen or a group of formula &#x2014;COOR', wherein R&#x2032; represents hydrogen or an alkyl group with 7 to 30 carbon atoms. The polymer is a star polymer with 3 to 21 arms and at least 3 of the arms consist of at least 40% by weight, with regard to the weight of the arms, of repeating units, which are derived from one or more ethylenically unsaturated ester compounds of formula (I), in which Rrepresents a linear or unbranched alkyl radical with 7 to 30 carbon atoms, and; Rand Rindependently represent hydrogen or a group of formula &#x2014;COOR&#x2032;, wherein R&#x2032; represents hydrogen or an alkyl group with 7 to 30 carbon atoms. The invention also relates to oil formulations comprising the inventive polymers. The inventive polymers having a high thickening action can be used, in particular, as viscosity modifiers, pour point depressants, dispersing agents and/or friction modifiers.

Oil soluble polymers

Copolymers are obtainable by polymerizing a monomer composition containing a) 0% to 40% by weight of one or more ethylenically unsaturated ester compounds of the formula (I), b) 10% to 99.9% by weight of one or more ethylenically unsaturated ester compounds of the formula (II), c) 0% to 80% by weight of one or more ethylenically unsaturated ester compounds of the formula (III), d) 0.1% to 30% by weight of one or more ethylenically unsaturated, polar ester compounds of the formula (IV), and e) 0% to 50% by weight of comonomer, based in each case on the total weight of the ethylenically unsaturated monomers.

The molar branching degree lies in the region between 0.1-10 mol. % and the comb polymer represents the sum of at least 80 wt. %, in relation to the weight of the repeating units, on repeating units which are derived from polyolefin-based macromonomers, and repeating units which are selected from low molecular monomers which are selected from the group consisting of styrene monomers having 8-17 carbon atoms, alkyl(meth)acrylates having 1-10 carbon atoms in the alcohol group, vinyl esters having 1-11 carbon atoms in the acyl group, vinyl ethers having 1-10 carbon atoms in the alcohol group, (Di)alkylfumarates having 1-10 carbon atoms in the alcohol group, (Di)alkylmaleates having 1-10 carbon atoms in the alcohol group, and mixtures of said monomers.

Oil soluble comb polymers

The present invention relates to a process for synthesis of polymer compositions with reduced catalyst content, wherein ethylenically unsaturated monomers containing less than 0.5 wt % of ethylenically unsaturated monomers with at least one carboxylic group, sulfonic acid group and/or at least one phosphonic acid group relative to the total weight of the ethylenically unsaturated monomers are polymerized by means of initiators containing a transferable group of atoms and of one or more catalysts comprising at least one transition metal in the presence of ligands which can form a coordination compound with the metal catalyst or catalysts and, after the polymerization, the catalyst contained in the polymer is at least partly separated. For this purpose, the polymer composition is filtered, after the polymerization, in the presence of at least one filter aid which contains at least 0.5 wt %, relative to the total weight of the filter aid, of repeating units that contain at least one carboxylic acid group, sulfonic acid group and/or at least one phosphonic acid group.
