The organic electrolyte solution of the present invention and a lithium battery using the same suppress degradation of an electrolyte, providing improved cycle properties and life span thereof.

Organic electrolytic solutions are provided. One solution includes a lithium salt, an organic solvent including a first solvent having high permittivity and a second solvent having a low boiling point, and a phosphate compound. The present invention relates to an electrolytic solution for a lithium battery and a lithium battery using the same. The organic electrolytic solution includes a lithium salt, a mixed organic solvent comprising a high dielectric constant solvent and a low boiling-point solvent, and an additive. The additive used in the electrolytic solution is a heterocyclic compound of Formula (1): where R, Rand Rmay each independently be a C1-C10 linear or branched alkyl group; Rmay be a C1-C10 linear or branched alkylene group; X may be a heterocyclic ring containing N and O whereby a tetraallkyl orthosilicate functional group may be linked to N. Provided is a lithium battery in which the cathode comprises an electroactive sulfur-containing material and the electrolyte comprises a lithium salt, a non-aqueous solvent, and one or more capacity-enhancing reactive components. Suitable reactive components include electron transfer mediators. Also are provided methods for making the lithium battery.
