The present disclosure is drawn to primer compositions, which can include a binder including polyvinyl alcohol, starch nanoparticles, and a crosslinkable polyurethane dispersion. The primer competitions can also include a cationic salt and water.

Primer compositions

The present disclosure is drawn to sizing compositions, which can include 25 wt % to 80 wt % starch based on dry components, 15 wt % to 60 wt % cationic multivalent salt based on dry components, and an organic additive. The organic additive can be a water-swellable polymer having a weight average molecular weight ranging from 150,000 Mw to 1,000,000 Mw, a wax, or both the water-swellable polymer and the wax.

Sizing compositions

The present disclosure is drawn to primer compositions, which can include a binder including polyvinyl alcohol, starch nanoparticles, and a polyurethane dispersion. The primer competitions can also include a cationic salt and water.

The present disclosure relates to an Inkjet printing process that comprises inkjet printing an inkjet ink composition onto a substrate to form a printed inkjet ink layer. The inkjet ink composition comprises a colorant, a curable polyurethane dispersion, a photoinitiator and water, wherein the amount of curable polyurethane dispersed in the inkjet ink composition is 0.1 to 30 weight %. A radiation-curable overcoat composition is applied over the printed inkjet ink layer as an overcoat layer. The overcoat composition comprises a curable polyurethane dispersion, a photoinitiator and water. The printed inkjet ink layer is then cured on the substrate by exposing both the overcoat layer and inkjet ink layer on the substrate to radiation.

Inkjet printing

The present disclosure provides pre-treatment compositions and related methods. As such, a pre-treatment coating composition can include an evaporable liquid vehicle and a pre-treatment coating matrix. The pre-treatment coating matrix can include from 5 wt % to 40 wt % multivalent metal salt, and from 5 wt % to 20 wt % polyurethane. The composition can further include from 10 wt % to 50 wt % high Tg latex having a Tg greater than 80&#xb0; C., from 0.5 wt % to 20 wt % water soluble binder, and from 3 wt % to 20 wt % wax having a melting point greater than 120&#xb0; C. The weight percentages of the pre-treatment coating matrix exclude the evaporable liquid vehicle content, and the weight ratio of the high Tg latex to polyurethane is from 1:1 to 5:1.

Pre-treatment coating compositions

The present disclosure relates to an inkjet printing process that comprises applying a radiation-curable primer composition onto a substrate to form a primer layer. The primer composition comprises a curable polyurethane dispersion, a photoinitiator and water. An inkjet ink composition is inkjet printed onto the primer layer as a printed inkjet ink layer. The inkjet ink composition comprises a colorant, a curable polyurethane dispersion, a photoinitiator and water. The curable polyurethane is dispersed in the inkjet ink composition in an amount of composition is 0.1 to 30 weight % of the inkjet ink composition. The printed inkjet ink layer is cured on the substrate by exposing both the primer layer and printed inkjet ink layer on the substrate to radiation.

The present disclosure is drawn to image-receiving compositions that can include an aqueous liquid vehicle and solids dispersed in the aqueous liquid vehicle. The solids can include from 60 wt % to 94 wt % pigment filler, from 0.5 wt % to 15 wt % multivalent salt, from 1 wt % to 10 wt % water-soluble polymer, from 2 wt % to 15 wt % latex, and from 2 wt % to 15 wt % synthetic micronized cellulose. The synthetic micronized cellulose can have a bulk density of from 150 grams per liter to 200 grams per liter, and a surface area of 0.1 m/g to 10 m/g.

Image-receiving compositions

The present disclosure is drawn to a coated print medium, a method of preparing a print medium, and a printing system. The coated print medium can comprise a substrate and a coating applied to the substrate. The coating can comprise, by dry weight percent, 5 wt % to 30 wt % of a polymeric binder, 20 wt % to 50 wt % of a cationic latex, 5 wt % to 15 wt % of a multivalent cationic salt, and 1 wt % to 20 wt % of an optical brightener; and 5 wt % to 20 wt % of a cationic polyamine.

Coated print medium

The present disclosure provides pre-treatment compositions and related methods. As such, a pre-treatment coating composition can include an evaporable liquid vehicle and a pre-treatment coating matrix. The pre-treatment coating matrix can include from 5 wt % to 40 wt % multivalent metal salt, and from 5 wt % to 20 wt % coalescent latex binder comprising styrene-butadiene rubber, polyurethane, or mixture thereof. The composition can further include from 30 wt % to 80 wt % high Tg latex having a Tg greater than 80&#xb0; C., from 0.5 wt % to 20 wt % water soluble binder, and from 3 wt % to 20 wt % wax having a melting point greater than 120&#xb0; C. The weight percentages of the pre-treatment coating matrix exclude the evaporable liquid vehicle content.

The present disclosure is drawn to primer compositions, which can include a polyvinyl alcohol, a cationic salt, and water. The polyvinyl alcohol can have a weight average molecular weight from about 50,000 Mw to about 250,000 Mw. The cationic salt can be present in an amount of at least 15 wt % of all dry components of the primer composition. The polyvinyl alcohol and cationic salt together can make up at least 30 wt % of all dry components of the primer composition.

The present disclosure provides recording media and methods. In one example, a light weight media sheet for high speed printing can comprise a paper substrate having a basis weight of less than 100 gsm; a first flatness control layer applied directly to a first side of the paper substrate, the first flatness control layer having a coating weight from 1 to 15 gsm, wherein the first flatness control layer comprises a polymer selected from the group consisting of a polyvinyl alcohol, a polyamide, a polyimide, a polyethylene oxide, a polyvinyl pyrrolidone, a cellulose, a starch, an acrylate, copolymers thereof, and mixtures thereof; and a first ink-receiving layer applied directly to the first flatness control layer, the first ink-receiving layer having a coating weight from 1 to 40 gsm, where the light weight media sheet has a total basis weight from 40 to 150 gsm.

Media sheet

The present disclosure is drawn to coated print media, a method of preparing print media, and a printing system. The coated print media can comprise a substrate and a coating applied to the substrate. The coating can include, by dry weight, 5 wt % to 60 wt % of a polymeric binder having a Tg below 50 C, 10 wt % to 60 wt % of cationic latex having a Tg from 50 C to 130 C, 5 wt % to 30 wt % of a multivalent cationic salt, and 2 wt % to 25 wt % of a high density polyethylene wax.

Coated print media

A fabric print medium containing a fabric base substrate and a coating composition applied to the fabric base substrate. The coating composition includes a non-halogenated flame retardant agent having phosphorous-containing ingredient and nitrogen-containing ingredient at a 1:1 ratio, a water-soluble polymer binder and a water-soluble high-valence metal complex. Also disclosed are the method for making such fabric print medium and the method for producing printed images using said material.

Fabric print medium

The present disclosure is drawn to a coated print medium, a method of preparing a print medium, and a printing system. The coated print medium can comprise a substrate and a coating applied to the substrate. The coating can comprise, by solids or dry weight, 5 wt % to 30 wt % of a polymeric binder, 20 wt % to 50 wt % of a cationic latex, 5 wt % to 15 wt % of a multivalent cationic salt, and 1 wt % to 20 wt % of a sulfonic acid- or sulfonate-containing stilbene optical brightener.

A printable recording media containing a substrate and a coating layer including a mixture of a first polymer selected from the group consisting of a polymer comprising ethylene residues and vinyl alcohol residues and a polymer comprising vinyl alcohol residues and a second polymer comprising ethylene residues, ethyl acrylate or acrylic ester residues and maleic anhydride residues wherein the amount of first polymer, in the mixture, is about 50% to about 95% by weight. Also disclosed herein is a method for making such printable recording media.
