An outdoor luminaire assembly adapted to be attached to a mounting stanchion that includes an optical assembly having a lamp for generating light, an arm for supporting the optical assembly from the mounting stanchion, and a ballast which is enclosed within the arm. The optical assembly is adapted to receive and support a cover member which is selected from a group of differently shaped cover members. The cover member is made of a plastic material in order to provide design flexibility. The arm has a removable panel which allows for maintenance-ready access to the ballast and other electrical componentry which is enclosed within the arm.

An apparatus for supporting a primary lamp and a secondary lamp is disclosed. The apparatus comprises primary and secondary brackets, and primary and secondary sockets. The primary socket is affixed to the primary bracket, and receives the primary lamp, preferably a high intensity discharge lamp. The secondary bracket has a first end affixed to the primary bracket and a second end. The secondary socket is affixed to the secondary bracket, and receives the secondary lamp, preferably an incandescent lamp. The primary bracket defines a projected perimeter. The second end of the secondary bracket is normally biased to an operating position where the secondary lamp extends outside the projected perimeter of the primary bracket, but can be moved to a maintenance position where the secondary lamp is within the projected perimeter of the primary bracket. In operation, the secondary lamp is thus spaced apart from the primary lamp. During lamp replacement, however, the secondary bracket can be moved to a position where both lamps can be extracted from their enclosure.

Lighting fixture support assembly

A remote ballast assembly is disclosed for suspending a lighting fixture from a drop ceiling which forms the bottom boundary of a recessed plenum. The recessed plenum or ceiling cavity is typically bounded by a plurality of spaced apart cross members which form a support grid for the drop ceiling. The remote ballast assembly comprises a housing, a junction box, a bracket, a transformer, and a relay. The housing engages the cross members which define the recessed plenum to support the housing in the recessed plenum. The junction box is affixed to the housing proximate an opening in the housing, and the bracket is affixed to the junction box. The bracket includes a hook which engages a loop bracket on the lighting fixture to thereby suspend the lighting fixture in a vertical position, regardless of the orientation of the housing. The transformer is mounted to the housing, and provides electrical power from a remote source to the primary lamp during normal operation. The relay is normally open, but closes a circuit to provide electrical power to the secondary lamp when electrical power to the primary lamp is interrupted.
