A protection circuit module which is welded to a connection tab and a PTC device without affecting a printed circuit board, and a battery pack including the same are provided. One embodiment of the present invention provides a battery pack having a bare cell and a protection circuit module electrically connected to the bare cell. The protection circuit module includes a printed circuit board, a connection tab positioned on a bottom surface of the printed circuit board, and a positive temperature coefficient (PTC) device electrically connected to the connection tab. The PTC device has a first lead coupled to a bottom surface of the connection tab, a PTC body electrically connected to the first lead, and a second lead electrically connected to the PTC body.

Protection circuit module and battery pack including the same

A battery pack is provided. In one embodiment, the battery pack includes a plurality of battery units each including at least one battery cell, a charge switch unit for connecting the plurality of battery units in parallel to form a charge path, a discharge switch unit for connecting the plurality of battery units in series to form a discharge path, and a battery management unit for controlling switching of the charge switch unit and the discharge switch unit according to a standby mode, a charge mode, a and discharge mode of the battery pack. The switching is controlled with a delay time associated with each of combinations of mode conversion between the modes.

It further includes a battery management unit including a plurality of charge terminals and a plurality of discharge terminals electrically connected to terminals of the plurality of battery units, and controlling charging/discharging of the battery module. It further includes a control unit including a plurality of discharge control terminals electrically connected to the plurality of discharge terminals, a discharge control switch installed between each of the plurality of discharge control terminals, and a charge recognizing unit, and controlling the operation of the discharge control switch according to the level of voltage detected by the charge recognizing unit.

According to an embodiment, a battery pack includes a battery cell, a circuit module, and a cover. The circuit module is coupled to the battery cell by lead plates. Terminals are disposed on a top surface of the circuit module. The cover is coupled to the circuit module and the battery cell and exposes the terminals to an exterior environment. At least one support plate is disposed between the circuit module and the battery cell. Thus, the support plate prevents the circuit module of the battery pack from being bent.

A secondary battery with a protection circuit module and a manufacturing method thereof are disclosed. The secondary battery includes a bare cell, and a protection circuit board including a circuit board and a coupling member positioned at least one side in the longitudinal direction of the circuit board to couple the circuit board to the bare cell. The coupling member includes a coupler fixed to the circuit board, and first and second supports respectively extending from the coupler and spaced apart from each other in the longitudinal direction of the circuit board.
