An electron gun assembly for a cathode ray tube where the distortion of the electron beam that ordinarily occurs at the periphery of the screen is reduced. The electron gun assembly includes a cathode for emitting electrons, and a plurality of grid electrodes having a control electrode facing the cathode. The grid electrodes sequentially follow the cathode to focus and accelerate the electrons emitted from the cathode. The control electrode has a beam passage hole with a horizontal length H, and a vertical length V being larger than the horizontal length H. The ratio of the vertical to horizontal lengths satisfies the following condition: 1.03&#x2266;V/H&#x2266;1.63.

An electron gun assembly for a cathode ray tube includes a cathode for emitting an electron beam, and a plurality of electrodes mounted in a row with predetermined gaps therebetween. The electrodes include a focus electrode for receiving a focus voltage, and an anode electrode surrounding part of the focus electrode for receiving an anode voltage. A support is used to fix the electrodes in an aligned configuration, and a first auxiliary support secures the focus electrode to the support. The focus electrode includes an intermediate aperture section, a small aperture section, and a large aperture section, while the anode electrode includes a large aperture section and a small aperture section. Two second auxiliary supports secure the anode electrode to the support.

An electron gun for a cathode ray tube having a scanning velocity modulation coil mounted on an outer circumference of a neck of the cathode ray tube. The electron gun includes a cathode for emitting electron beams; a plurality of grid electrodes sequentially mounted starting from the cathode, and including a plurality of focus electrodes mounted with a predetermined gap therebetween; supports on which the grid electrodes are fixed in a row; and a shield electrode mounted between the focus electrodes and connected to the focus electrodes. The shield electrode defines a continuous space along an elongated axis direction of the cathode ray tube.

An electron gun for a cathode ray tube includes a cathode for radiating electron beams, a scanning velocity modulation coil for synchronizing the electron beams with an image signal, a focus electrode having first and second sub-electrodes disposed with a gap through which a magnetic field generated by the scanning velocity modulation coil passes, a plurality of grid electrodes with the focus electrode for controlling the electron beams radiated from the cathode, a support for aligning and supporting the grid electrodes, and a shield electrode electrically connected to the first and second sub-electrodes to protect against infiltration of an outer electric field. The shield electrode includes plural intermediate electrodes disposed in the gap between the first and second sub-electrodes, and electrical connecting unit for electrically connecting the intermediate electrodes to the first and second sub-electrodes. The intermediate electrodes are spaced away from each other.

An electron gun for a cathode ray tube and a cathode ray tube using such electron gun is provided. The electron gun includes a cathode for emitting an electron beam; a plurality of grid electrodes aligned sequentially from the cathode, one of the grid electrodes including a plurality of focusing electrodes that are mounted with a predetermined gap therebetween; a support for fixing the grid electrodes in their aligned arrangement; and a shield electrode mounted covering the gap(s) of the focusing electrodes and extending a predetermined distance over the focusing electrodes. The cathode ray tube includes the electron gun; a neck, within which the electron gun is mounted; and a scanning velocity modulation coil mounted on an outer circumference of the neck corresponding to the positioning of the gap(s) of the focusing electrodes.
