A cathode ray tube for reducing a deflection power without any BSN problem is disclosed. The cathode ray tube has a panel, a funnel having a deflection yoke on an outer periphery thereof, and a neck connected to the cone of the funnel. A phosphor screen is arranged on an inner surface of the panel. The funnel includes a body connected to the panel, and a cone connected to the body. The cone has a deflection power reducing shape which is formed to have a range of length 0.25&times;L from an end of the cone at the neck where L is an entire length of the cone measured along an axis of symmetry of the cathode ray tube.

A cathode ray tube with a central axis includes a panel with an inner phosphor screen and a rear portion. A funnel is connected to the rear portion of the panel. The funnel sequentially has a body with a large-sized end and a small-sized end, and a cone portion with a large-sized end and a small-sized end. The large-sized end of the body is sealed to the rear portion of the panel. The small-sized end of the body meets the large-sized end of the cone portion at a point. The meeting point of the body and the cone portion becomes an inflection point of the funnel. The cone portion has a sectional shape varying from a circle to a non-circle like a rectangle while proceeding from the small sized end to the large sized end such that the cone portion is provided with a curvature radius Rh in the horizontal axis direction, a curvature radius Rv in the vertical axis direction, and a curvature radius Rd in the diagonal axis direction. The horizontal, vertical and diagonal curvature radii Rh, Rv and Rd of the cone portion of the funnel satisfy the following condition: Rh<Rv<Rd.

A cathode ray tube with a central tube axis Z includes a panel with an inner phosphor screen and a rear portion. The panel has a substantially rectangular effective screen portion with two long sides in a horizontal axis direction, two short sides in a vertical axis direction and four edges in a diagonal axis direction. A funnel is connected to the rear portion of the panel. The funnel sequentially has a body with a large-sized end and a small-sized end, and a cone portion with a large-sized end and a small-sized end. The cone portion has a thickness Th in the horizontal axis direction, a thickness Tv in the vertical axis direction and a thickness Td in the diagonal axis direction. The horizontal thickness Th, the vertical thickness Tv and the diagonal thickness Td of the cone portion of the funnel in the tube axis Z direction satisfy the following condition: Th(z)&equals;Tv(z)>Td(z).

A cathode ray tube includes a panel with an inner phosphor screen and a rear portion. A funnel is connected to the rear portion of the panel. The funnel is sequentially provided with a body having a large-sized end and a small-sized end, and a cone portion having a large-sized end and a small-sized end. The large-sized end of the body is sealed to the rear portion of the panel. The small-sized end of body meets the large-sized end of the cone portion at a point. A neck is sealed to the small-sized end of the cone portion. The funnel is structured to satisfy the following condition: 1.16&lE;(D/2)/tan((&psgr;/2))/(FG&minus;TN)&lE;1.35 where D indicates the size of an effective area of the phosphor screen, FG indicates the distance between the large-sized end of the body and a final accelerating electrode of an electron gun fitted in the neck, TN indicates the distance between the small-sized end of the cone portion and the inflection point of the funnel, and &psgr; indicates an electron beam deflection angle.

Disclosed is a cathode ray tube comprised of a funnel with flute sections wherein the Beam Shadow Neck phenomenon can be prevented while at the same time ensuring adequate structural strength to prevent collapse due to an internal vacuum. These optimum flute sections are accomplished with the help of a computer simulation performance wherethrough electron beam orbits and funnel stress are interpreted.
