A method and an apparatus for indicating the time to replace consumables in an image forming apparatus by receiving the current date and the critical time of the consumables from a host and comparing them. The apparatus and method include receiving information regarding replacement of the consumables from the host; comparing the received information regarding the replacement of the consumables to information on the critical time to replace the consumables; and when the comparison result indicates the need to replace the consumables, indicating the time to replace the consumables. The information regarding replacement of the consumables includes a current date, and the information on the critical time includes the critical time. The indicating of the time may include comparing the current date and the critical time and when the current date is the same as or greater than the critical time, determining that the consumables need to be replaced.

Method of and apparatus for indicating a time to replace consumables in an image forming apparatus

Disclosed is a method for removing contaminants which remain on an engine of an image forming apparatus, such that when a sheet of paper becomes jammed in the image forming apparatus during a printing operation, a subsequent sheet of paper is enforcedly supplied to the image forming apparatus after removing the jammed paper so that contaminants, for example toner, are removed from the image forming apparatus in such a manner to fix the contaminants to the subsequent sheet of paper. While fixing the contaminants to the subsequent sheet of paper, print data is not fixed onto the subsequent sheet of paper. Accordingly, an optimum quality of printing can be accomplished without a waste of toner.

Method for removing pollution material which remain on an engine of an image forming apparatus

A method for detecting the status of the toner in a laser printer uses a photosensor. The method includes sampling a signal generated from the photosensor during a specified time, increasing or decreasing the value of a counter in accordance with an integral algorithm, and comparing the resultant counter value with a reference value, and displaying the status of the toner in the printer on a display device, depending on a result of such comparison. This method can accommodate relatively inexpensive photosensors. As the noise-ridden signal generated by such a photosensor is effectively filtered, this method is advantageous in cost and reliability.

In a paper re-pickup method for an image forming apparatus, if the initial attempt at paper pickup is unsuccessful, then the paper pickup is re-attempted automatically. The method includes the steps of: picking up the uppermost sheet of printing papers stacked in the automatic paper feeding unit; and checking whether the paper pickup proceeds normally. When the paper pickup does not occur normally, there may be a re-attempting to pick up the papers.

A printer driver (which can be software) converts printing data into a data code and compares a quantity of the data code with a storage capacity of a memory prepared in a printer. If the quantity of the data code exceeds the storage capacity of the memory, then the data code is converted into bit map data that can be processed at a print engine of the printer. As the result of the comparison, if the quantity of the data code does not exceed the storage capacity of the memory, then the data code is transmitted to the printer. In an image forming system having fixing rollers for affixing developing material (toner) onto the surface of paper, a paper jam elimination method is disclosed. The method prevents toner stains within the system's interior portions by providing a complete transfer and fixation of toner onto the paper's surface. The method includes the steps of: detecting a paper jam, heating the fixing rollers to a predetermined temperature in response to establishment of a paper jam elimination mode, and eliminating the paper jam after heating the fixing rollers to the predetermined temperature.

A method and apparatus for controlling a print engine of a page printer according to a position of printing paper are disclosed. The method includes a stand-by process for initializing each portion of the print engine to a printable state when a power source is applied and checking if a printing start key is depressed, a printing ready process for applying commands for performing a driving start of a print engine motor positioned inside the print engine, setting a printing condition set of a charge unit and a developing unit, and feeding printing paper feeding through each controller when the printing start key is depressed, and checking if a first detecting signal generated by a first sensor disposed between a pickup roller and a register roller is received, a printing process for providing a command for driving the register roller when the first detecting signal is received in order to arrange the printing paper, and sequentially applying exposing, developing and transfer commands in response to a page synchronizing signal generated when the page of printing data is newly started, and a printing release process for providing the command for returning to the stand-by process in response to a second detecting signal generated by a second sensor installed downstream of a fusing unit.
