Analgesic and anti-inflamatory compounds of the formula ##STR1## wherein n=0-1,

1-substituted, 2,3-diphenyl-3-hydroxymethyl pyrrolidines, where the 2-

New iodophor compositions are provided which are mixtures of polydextrose-iodine and polyvinylpyrrolidone-iodine. Such mixtures containing polydextrose-iodine and polyvinylpyrrolidone-iodine, wherein the ratio by weight of polydextrose to polyvinylpyrrolidone is between 20-80: 80-20, have an immediate bactericidal activity upon application and also a long lasting microbicidal activity. The immediate microbicidal acitivity is faster and more effective than by the use of either the polydextrose-iodine alone or the polyvinylpyrrolidone-iodine alone, and the effect is more long lasting than in the case of the use of either polydextrose-iodine alone or polyvinylpyrrolidone-iodine alone.

Iodophor composition with immediate and long action microbicidal action

New iodophors are provided which exhibit effective degerming of skin, nucous membranes of animals and surfaces of inanimate objects and which provide broad spectrum microbicidal action without toxicity or irritation. The iodophors of the invention are complexes of iodine with polydextrose or with the polymer resulting from the copolymerization of sucrose and epichlorohydrin. The invention further relates to germicidal compositions containing such complexes and to methods of producing the complexes.

Iodophor composition

Analgesic and anti-inflammatory compounds are provided. These compounds possess the following general formula: ##STR1## wherein R=--COOR.sub.5, --CH.sub.2 CO.sub.2 H, ##STR2## wherein A and B=hydrogen, lower alkyl, hydroxy alkyl, lower alkyl amine, substituted lower alkyl amine, aminoalkyl, substituted aminoalkyl;

Also provided are the method of producing such compounds.

Antimicrobial bis-imidazolo-pyridine compound

Antimicrobial compounds of the formulae: ##STR1## wherein R and R.sub.1 =H, lower alkyl, halogen, methoxy, hydroxy, nitro, carboxy, aryl (preferably phenyl) substituted aryl (preferably substituted by lower alkyl) and sulfamyl, and R.sub.2 =hydrogen, lower alkyl, aryl (preferably phenyl) and substituted aryl (preferably substituted by lower alkyl) and wherein n is an integer from 2-20, are provided. Also provided are the method of producing such compounds.

Antimicrobial bis-benzimidazale compounds

An improved process for preparing iodophor preparations which comprises adding an ion selected from the group consisting of iodate, bromate, chlorite, chromate, hypochlorite, permanganate and persulfate ions and hydrogen peroxide to the iodine carrier selected from the group consisting of povidone, cationic, anionic and nonionic detergent compounds and an iodide salt, to result in a substantially pure iodophor compound which is virtually free of autodegraded iodide ion contamination and unreacted elemental iodine, said iodophor compounds exhibiting an enhanced stability. The process is also applicable to eliminate the presence of elemental iodine contaminants, iodide contamination and loss of titratable iodine during the process preparing pharmaceutical dosage forms containing iodophor active ingredients to enhance the stability and potency of the respective product.
