A bearing module for a pintle valve including a pintle bearing, bearing spring, and two-part housing. The bearing has an axial face for sealing against an inner axial surface of the housing. The bearing diameter is less than the diameter of the housing, permitting the bearing to float radially. The housing fits into a port in the valve body and also extends over an axial surface of the body, thus forming a seal against the wall of the port and the surface of the body. The bearing spring, preferably a wave washer, is compressed within the housing as the two housing parts are assembled to form the module. In a currently preferred embodiment, the housing further comprises a coking shield extending along the surface of the pintle shaft within the valve port to reduce the tendency for coking gases to enter the bearing module.

Bearing module for an exhaust gas recirculation valve

A hydraulically actuated exhaust gas recirculation valve assembly for metering exhaust gas to the intake of an internal combustion engine. The exhaust gas recirculation valve assembly includes a base having an internal cavity with a control portion and a flow-through portion permitting flow-through of exhaust gas. The base has a hydraulic control port in fluid communication with the control portion of the cavity, the control port having an inlet. A valve body is rotationally mounted within the base, the valve body including a hydraulic control spool disposed within the control portion of the internal cavity. The hydraulic control spool generates a rotational force in response to a hydraulic pressure applied to the control port. The valve body further includes an exhaust gas control spool positioned in the flow-through portion of the internal cavity and connected to the hydraulic control spool and rotated therewith to selectively control flow of exhaust gas through the flow-through portion of the internal cavity.

Exhaust gas recirculation valve

Internal combustion engine variable valve timing control with a camshaft phaser for varying rotational phase between a camshaft and a crankshaft in response to a control command determined through a hybrid control strategy without resort to direct temperature measurement. For a range of phase errors requiring high response compensation, a control strategy emphasizing rapid response, such as a bang-bang strategy, is deployed. For a range of phase errors requiring high accuracy compensation, a control strategy emphasizing high precision, such as a proportional-plus-integral strategy, is deployed. The phase error ranges are updated periodically to account for changes in operating conditions. The control command includes an offset which varies in response to a periodically estimated control deadband to affirmatively account for the deadband with each issued control command.
