A two pole circuit breaker has a central opening to receive the single actuator provided for setting and resetting the two breaker mechanisms. These mechanisms are compactly housed in two chambers that are defined by half sections which are in turn provided inside an outer shell that defines the top opening. In one version the actuator is a pushbutton that is coupled to both breaker mechanisms. In other versions the actuator is in the form of a toggle or a rocker with coupling means to both breaker mechanisms. In a preferred embodiment the half sections that define the breaker mechanism chambers include a center section of I-shape that defines the adjacent chambers and also accommodates a lamp to light the rocker/actuator and/or a well to receive a light switch that can be wired to provide remote indication of switch condition. Provision is made to mount inertia wheels in both breaker mechanisms with the mass of each wheel being minimized as a result of locating the wheel's axis between the armature pivot point and the pin and slot coupling between the armature and the inertia wheel itself.

A split case circuit breaker is fitted with a bracket assembly which defines a rectangular boss to cover the smaller circuit breaker boss on the front face of the breaker housing. An actuator link operates the otherwise conventional breaker mechanism inside the housing, and has a free end portion coupled to a rocker pivotably provided in a rectangular recess defined for it in the rectangular boss of the bracket assembly.

A circuit breaker and mating adapter plate combine to fit a panel opening intended to receive larger breakers. The adapter plate has one resilient and one rigid leg, each with inturned lips so that the adapter can be clipped onto the face of the breaker. One mounting screw utilizes a conventional threaded opening in the breaker, the other attaches to the adapter only.

An arrangement is provided for interconnecting a set of two or more circuit breakers such that tripping of one will cause concurrent tripping of the others. A coupler adapted to be placed in a recess defined by the abutting side walls of two adjacent breakers is engageable with trip members in both of the associated breakers and provides operative interconnection between the two breakers. Only one of the breakers of the set need be provided with an operating handle which can be used to turn all of the breakers 'on' and 'off' in unison.
