An electronic management system for an automatically adjustable clutch in a power train between a combustion engine and a manually shiftable transmission of a motor vehicle employs a microcontroller which regulates the transmission of torque by the clutch to initially effect a change from a disengaged condition to a condition of initial engagement with a maximal slip whenever the synchronization of the transmission following a manual shifting of the transmission into a different gear ratio takes place at that RPM of an input and/or an output component of the transmission which exceeds a predetermined threshold value, such as that corresponding to the maximum permisible RPM of the engine. The microcontroller varies the slip of the clutch until the RPM of the input and/or output component of the transmission decreases at least to the predetermined threshold value.

Electronic clutch management

An electronic clutch management system for motor vehicles with engines having butterfly valves. An actuator under the control of a micro-controller activates a clutch between the engine and a transmission as a function of an ECM sensor which senses the position of the butterfly valve. If the micro-controller breaks down or is disturbed in its function, the micro-controller control is switched off, and control of the actuator element is switched over from the micro-controller to a comparator which is driven directly by the ECM sensor and controls the actuator element to activate the clutch, i.e., into its disengaged or engaged position, in a sense opposite to the position of the butterfly valve.

The operation of an automated friction clutch between the output element of the engine and the input element of the variable-speed transmission in a motor vehicle is regulated by a fluid-operated system which receives signals from an evaluating circuit. The evaluating circuit receives signals from a number of sensors which monitor the RPM of the engine, the RPM of the input element of the transmission, clutch travel, the position of the throttle valve, the position of the shift linkage, the position of the gas pedal and other parameters. The fluid-operated system can select the condition of the clutch during starting, driving, acceleration, parking, driving in reverse and/or parking of the motor vehicle and/or during transitions between such stages of operation.

Method of regulating the operation of automatic clutches

A measuring circuit for the ionic current measurement in the combustion chamber of an Otto engine is disclosed. The circuit has an ignition transformer the secondary coil of which supplies an ignition circuit. On the side carrying the positive voltage of the ignition pulse, the coil is connected to ground and, on the side carrying the negative voltage of the ignition pulse, it is connected to the ignition spark gaps via a distributor. The circuit has, inserted into the ignition circuit, a parallel circuit of a high-voltage Zener diode connected in the non-conducting direction related to the ignition current, and a capacitor as the measuring voltage source. The present invention supplies the measuring voltage to the ignition spark gap without circuit elements influencing its sensitivity. A parallel circuit is connected between the side carrying the positive voltage of the secondary coil and ground. The secondary coil is connected via diodes immediately to the ignition spark gaps such that the anode of each diode is connected to the side of the secondary coil carrying the negative voltage of the ignition pulse. A coupling capacitor for decoupling of an ionic current signal is coupled to the primary winding of the ignition transformer.
