In accordance with one embodiment of the present disclosure, a method of operating a relay node includes receiving information, at the relay node, information identifying a plurality of subframes. The subframes represent time periods during which a base station may grant the relay node permission to transmit to the base station on a first frequency. The method also involves selecting one of the identified subframes to be used for a transmission between the relay node and a wireless terminal on the first frequency and transmits to the wireless terminal a scheduling grant granting the wireless terminal permission to transmit information on the first frequency during the selected subframe.

System and method for scheduling wireless transmissions

The disclosure relates to a method and radio base station for sharing resources in a wireless communication system. The radio base station stores an identity of a first entity to which a first plurality of UEs is associated. The first plurality of UEs has full access to resources provided by the radio base station. The radio base station also stores an identity of a second entity to which a second plurality of UEs is associated. The second plurality of UEs has partial access to the resources provided by the radio base station. When the radio base station receives a request for accessing resources from a UE, it determines whether the UE is associated with the second entity, i.e. if the UE is to be handled in support mode. If the UE is associated with the second entity it means that the UE only should have partial access to the resources.

Full and partial resource access in RAN sharing

The present application relates to methods and devices for handling a link in a cellular network environment. A method for handling a link between a network and a mobile terminal is provided. The network comprises a first base station serving the terminal and a second base station. The method comprises the steps: determining a mobility of the terminal; determining location information of the second base station; on the basis of the determined mobility and the location information, selecting a procedure to handle the link; and initiating to perform the selected procedure. One aim is to improve the quality of the link. A corresponding apparatus is also provided.

Interference mitigation in cellular networks

A method and arrangement in a first network node, which is serving a user equipment, for determining whether a handover of the user equipment is to be made to a second network node. The first network node and the second network node are configured for wireless communication with each other over a backhaul link in half-duplex communication mode. The first network node obtains an estimation of data-rate performance over the backhaul link, and determines whether to hand over the user equipment to the second network node based on the obtained estimation of the data-rate performance over the backhaul link.

Methods and arrangements in a network node

A method and arrangement for enabling communication of data between a UE and a first base station in a cellular communication network further comprising the second base station, and the second base station is connected to the first base station via a communication interface. A scheduling request is received from the first base station. The scheduling request is based on a suggested scheduling which is determined by the first base station, and the suggested scheduling concerns the communication of data. Scheduling information is determined based on the scheduling request, and the scheduling information is transmitted to the UE. By determining a suggested scheduling in a micro base station, but transmitting scheduling information from an overlaying macro base station, local awareness of communication conditions may be applied, and interferences from neighboring micro base stations may be decreased.

Super scheduling control channel

Methods and devices are disclosed for backhaul selection in a wireless communication network. A first radio base station has access to a first backhaul path through an out-of-band interface and to a second backhaul path, via a second radio base station, through an in-band interface. According to a method, a network entity sends, to the second radio base station, a request for available capacity on the second backhaul path for backhauling of the first radio base station. The second radio base station derives a total available capacity from an estimate of available capacity for backhauling on a backhaul path from the second radio base station to a core network and from an estimate of available capacity for backhauling on the in-band interface and signals the total available capacity to the network entity. The network entity selects backhaul path based on the received information on the total available capacity.

Methods and devices for supporting backhaul selection

The present solution relates to enabling improved performance for a user equipment UE () in a communication network (). A network node () detects () that wireless performance between the UE () and a base station () is poor. Then, it identifies () a location of the UE () where the poor performance is detected, obtains () an identity associated with the UE (), obtains () an address associated with the UE () and identifies () that the location of the UE () is residential and that the address corresponds to the location. The node () searches () for a wireline connection () located within a distance from the UE (). The node () establishes () whether the performance for the UE () would be improved by providing services from a core network () to the UE () via the wireline connection () using the home base station ().

Method and communication network node for improving communication performance

Methods for downlink power control in wireless communication systems are provided. In response to a transmitter power change request from a mobile terminal () over a wireless connection, a base station () determines a power control parameter based on its current total transmitter power P. The power control parameter preferably relates to a maximum connection-specific transmitter power, a power step size and/or a power increase probability, and is used by the base station to distribute transmitter power pto the connection.

Power control method

The technology relates to resource allocation in communications systems. In such a system, the pool of resources that can be provided to connected user equipment for usage in conducting communications services are divided into multiple resources classes. This class division is based on a characteristic allocation time of resource allocation procedures that can be applied on resources of the different classes. For each class, a resource utilization measure is determined. It is then determined, based on this measure, whether or not a resource allocation procedure associated with the current class should be triggered. This selective triggering can be realized through a comparison between the measure and a threshold associated with the current class. Both the measure determination and selective triggering are performed for a given class before continuing with a next class, preferably starting with the class having slowest resource allocation procedures.

Resource allocation management

A system, method and control unit are described for controlling the periodic reporting of measurements in a communication system from an access point to a control unit over a control interface. The measurements are used by algorithms in the control unit for controlling resource allocation at the access point. The reporting of measurements is controlled by dynamically determining a frequency for periodic reporting of each periodic measurement report from the access point to the control unit based on information on a number of links currently handled by the access point and such that a total aggregate frequency of periodical reporting of the number of periodic measurement reports does not exceed the limited total capacity of the control interface.

System and method for reporting measurements in communication system

Methods and apparatus are provided for reserving resources in a wireline network from a wireless network. A resource reservation request is made by a service client to a service broker. The service broker contacts a bandwidth broker to determine the available resources in the wireline network. The service broker also contacts a geographical domain server for information related to wireless access for the requested reservation. Using information provided by the geographical domain server, the service broker contacts a radio bearer broker to determine the resources available in a particular wireless network. Based upon the information provided by bandwidth brokers and radio bearer brokers, the service client can reserve the requested resources.

Method and apparatus for network service reservations over wireless access networks

A signal quality measurement system includes a transmitter for transmitting a test signal to a receiver and a device for storing a copy of the test signal at the receiver. The similarity between the stored copy of the test signal and the signal received at the receiver is measured to determine reception quality. The receiver also includes a device for selecting a sequence of different synchronization patterns directly from the stored copy of the test signal, for determining, from said received signal, a sequence of signal segments that best matches the synchronization pattern sequence and for synchronizing the received signal with the signal segment sequence, thereby synchronizing the received signal with the stored copy of the test signal.
