The invention relates to a device for hot-dip coating a metal strand (), especially a steel strip, in which the metal strand () is vertically guided through a container () accommodating the molten coating metal () and through a guide channel () disposed upstream thereof. The inventive device comprises at least two inductors () disposed at both sides of the metal strand () in the area of the guide channel () that are used to generate an electromagnetic field for retaining the coating metal () in the container (), and at least one sensor (') for detecting the position (s) of the metal strand () in the area of the guide channel (). In order to simplify and render more precise the detection of the position of the metal strand in the guide channel, the sensor for detecting the position of the metal strand () consists of two coils (&#x2032;) that are disposed, when seen from the direction of conveyance (R) of the metal strand (), within the height (H) of the inductors () between the inductors () and the metal strand (). The invention further relates to a method for hot-dip coating a metal strand.

Method and device for hot-dip coating a metal strand

The invention relates to a method for hot-dip coating a metal strand (), especially a steel strip, according to which the metal strand () is vertically guided through a container () accommodating the molten coating metal () and through a guide channel () disposed upstream thereof. An electromagnetic field is generated in the area of the guide channel () by means of at least two inductors () disposed at both sides of the metal strand () to retain the coating material () in the container (). In order to stabilize the metal strand () in a center position in the guide channel (), an electromagnetic field, superimposing the electromagnetic field of the inductors (), is generated by means of at least two additional coils () disposed at both sides of the metal strand (). In order to improve efficiency of the control of the metal strand in the guide channel, the center position of the metal strand () in the guide channel () is stabilized in a closed control loop by carrying out the following steps: a) detecting the position (s, s', s&#x2033;) of the metal strand () in the guide channel (); b) measuring the induced current (I) in the inductors (); c) measuring the induced current (I) in the additional coils (); d) influencing the induced current (I) in the additional coils () depending on the parameters (s, I, I) measured in steps a) to c), in order to maintain the metal strand () in a center position in the guide channel (). The invention further relates to a device for hot-dip coating a metal strand.

The invention relates to a device for hot-dip coating a metal bar (), particularly a steel strip, in which the metal bar () is vertically directed through a container () receiving the molten coating metal () and a directing channel () that is arranged upstream thereof. Said device comprises at least two inductors () which are disposed on both sides of the metal bar () in the zone of the directing channel () and generate an electromagnetic field for retaining the coating metal () within the container (). In order to better control the coating process, the inventive device is characterized by a sealing means (') which is arranged above the directing channel () in the bottom area () of the container () and alternatively releases or interrupts the flow of molten coating metal () to the metal bar () and/or the directing channel ().
