A method of producing a calibrating body, gage or measuring device, preferably a screw-thread measuring device, at least partially including a C&#x2014;SiC material constructed of a porous, carbon-containing material with infiltrated liquid Si, includes converting the Si at least partially to SiC by reaction with carbon. The C&#x2014;SiC material is produced from a C&#x2014;C material based on carbon felt material produced by pressing monofibers or fiber fragments irregularly entwined with each other. A calibrating body, gage or measuring device, preferably a screw-thread measuring device, is also provided.

A workpiece carrier for the inductive heating of workpieces contains ceramic materials at least at bearing surfaces which come into contact with the workpieces. The ceramic materials are distinguished by a high dimensional stability, low thermal and electrical conductivity and a high resistance to thermal shocks. A process for producing a ceramic material for a workpiece carrier obtains a suitable ceramic material by infiltrating a porous carbon skeleton with silicon. Processes for inductive heating and inductive hardening of workpieces with the workpiece carrier are also provided.

A fiber-reinforced composite body containing a first zone made of a ceramic matrix, which predominantly contains silicon carbide and, optionally, silicon and/or carbon and/or compounds thereof, and containing a second zone, which is located on a surface of the ceramic matrix zone and formed form a fiber-reinforced C/SiC ceramic. The fiber length decreases from the exterior of the fiber-reinforced ceramic zone up to the first zone and, optionally, up to one or more other zones that are arranged on the second zone. A method for producing the composite body is characterized by involving a joint infiltration at least of the first zone and of the second zone with liquid silicon and by the carrying out of a siliconization. A composite body of this type can be used, in particular, as armoring in the civil or military sectors.

A friction disc, in particular a brake or clutch disc, includes carbon fiber-reinforced ceramic composite material with at least one top surface formed as a friction surface. At least part of the friction surface is formed of a different material, in particular of a carbon-containing material. The different material exhibits lower wear and oxidation resistance than that of the rest of the friction surface and a supporting zone of the friction disc. A visual, audible or mechanical signal is produced under operating conditions due to comparatively greater wear. The signal provides a warning that the service life of the friction disc is being exceeded. A process for producing the friction disc is also provided.

Ceramic composite materials have unidirectional alignment of the reinforcing fibers. The ratio of the volume of the fiber strands of the reinforcing fibers to the volume of the matrix is at least 0.5. A process for their production involves initially coating the fiber strands or rovings of the reinforcing fibers with a sacrificial polymer. The coated fiber strands are processed with binder resins into unidirectionally reinforced CFK molded parts. The formed CFK bodies are carbonized to form CFC bodies. The CFC bodies are then silicized with liquid silicon. The liquid silicon diffuses into the pores formed in the CFC body and combines there at least partially with the carbon to form silicon carbide. The sacrificial polymer is pyrolized. The ceramic composite materials also can be used in fiber-reinforced ceramic structural parts.

A ceramic composite body includes at least two layers: material layer A and material layer B. Material layer A contains phases of a metal and the carbide of this metal. Material layer B contains silicon carbide that has been loosely bound by sintering. A method for fabricating the composite body is included and a protective armor against projectiles.

Multilayer composite for combustion chambers or nozzles of missiles, comprising an interior layer in contact with the combustion gases and an outer layer, wherein the interior layer is a fiber-reinforced ceramic whose matrix comprises phases of carbon and/or phases of silicon carbide and the outer layer is a polymer reinforced with carbon fibers, process for producing the same and combustion chambers and nozzles for missiles made of this composite.
