A connectivity appliance that can interconnect, optical fiber communication paths of one fiber density to optical fiber communication paths of a different density, for either breakout or aggregation functionality is provided. The connectivity appliance that can interconnect high density connectors, e.g., multi-fiber connectors, to a plurality of low density connectors, e.g., single fiber optic connectors. The connectivity appliance can determine the presence of connectors inserted into the connectivity appliance adapters, determine the characteristics of the cables and connectors inserted into the connectivity appliance and/or in close proximity to the connectivity appliance. Each connector on the connectivity appliances can have one or more associated indicators, e.g., LEDs, on either the front panel or the rear panel that is in close proximity to the relevant adapter and that provides visual indications associated with the connectors.

Transparent communication between iSCSI and FCoE end nodes is provided by a gateway device having iSCSI and FCoE network interfaces. The gateway allows end nodes of one protocol to communicate with end nodes of another protocol as if they were communicating with end nodes of the same protocol. The gateway accomplishes this by creating 'ghost' end nodes for each protocol. For example, the gateway creates ghost iSCSI nodes corresponding to physical FCoE nodes, and ghost FCoE nodes corresponding to physical iSCSI nodes. A ghost end node of a particular protocol is able to communicate with native end nodes of that protocol as if it were a native end node, because the gateway translates packets sent from end nodes in their native protocol into the other protocol for receipt by corresponding ghost nodes, and vice versa.

A system and methods for providing distributed and dynamic network services to remote access users. One of the methods includes providing a first certificate for requesting dynamic network services by a user network entity, and at least one second certificate for requesting static network services by the user network entity. According to one method, a user of the user network entity may generate a first message to request dynamic network services from a network service provider entity. For example, the first message may include the first certificate, a digital signature generated with a private encryption key associated with the first certificate and list of network service that the user wishes to set up dynamically. In one embodiment, when the network service provider entity receives the first message, the network service provider entity verifies the authenticity of the first certificate and, if the first certificate is authentic, the network service provider entity configures a network connection between the user network entity and a data network based on the network services requested by the user in the first message.

System and method for providing distributed and dynamic network services for remote access server users

A system and method for transmitting information between a source host and a destination host. A source host generates a message and forwards the message via a label switched path to the destination host so that when a central routing module receives the message, the message includes a label. A central routing module establishes a local master mapping table including a plurality of physical addresses, and each of the plurality of physical addresses is associated with a unique identifier such as a label. When a switch egress module receives the message with the label, the switch egress module determines a physical address associated with the label, maps the physical address to the message, and forwards the message to the destination host associated with the label.

System and method for providing masquerading using a multiprotocol label switching

A system and method for processing packets of information includes an ingress module. The ingress module receives a plurality of packets of information from a first network. The ingress module determines the type of each of the plurality of packets. A route server module is coupled to the ingress module. The route server module sends a distributed processing request to the ingress module. The ingress module receives the distributed processing request and, responsively, performs a first set of processing operations on selected ones of the plurality of packets. The selected ones of the plurality of packets are of a first type. The ingress module forwards others of the plurality of packets of information to the route server module. Each of the others of the plurality of packets are of a type distinct from the first type. The route server module receives the others of the plurality of packets of information and performs a second set of processing operations on the others of the plurality of packets of information.

A method for switching between a first network element and a second network element, the first and second network elements each connected to a first network and a second network. The method may be carried out by configuring the first network element and the second network element to recognize the same data from the second network. Next, data may be readdressed so that it may be recognized by both network elements. After readdressed data are sent to the first network element and the second network element, the first network element may be disconnected from the first network and the second network element may be connected to the first network. Data may be forwarded from the second network to the first network with little or no loss during the switchover.

A method and system for network security includes a first network device having a first set of key material with a base key and a key extension, and a second network device also having the first set of key material and a second set of key material with a second base key. The second network device is capable of communicating with the first network device using security determined by the first set of key material. The third network device is capable of communicating with the second network device using security determined by the second set of key material. For the present method and system, security determined by the first set of key material is stronger than security determined by the second set of key material.

Method and system for network security capable of doing stronger encryption with authorized devices

A system and method for switching security associations between network devices. The system and method includes a first, a second, and a third network device, with a first secure communication being established between the first and second network devices, and a second secure communication being established between the first and third network devices. Both secure communications may have replay prevention enabled. In addition, the first secure communication has a security association and a pre-defined sequence number limit less than a maximum sequence number, while the second secure communication has the same security association as the first secure communication, but an initial sequence number greater than the pre-defined sequence number limit. The system and method may also have a fourth network device with security information corresponding to the security association. The fourth network device is capable of passing the security information from the first network device to the third network device.
