Intragastric space filler

This invention relates to a non-invasive, safer alternative to current lipoplasty procedures. The preferred embodiment of the invention is a multi-channel system that focuses the low mega Hertz ultrasound at user selectable depths, where fat cells are to be emulsified. The system offers independent user control of the main emulsifying property, cavitation, and thermal heating, which can independently be used for skin tightening. One part of the system is a handheld transducer, in shape similar to a typical small diagnostic ultrasound transducer. The other part of the system includes a transmitter with, for example, internal tracking of procedure time and with a disabling feature.

External ultrasound lipoplasty

Breast implant and method of manufacture

A new soft tissue implant filling material is disclosed. The surgically implantable soft tissue implant filling material has good aesthetic properties, as measured by viscosity and elasticity, and good elimination properties. One embodiment of such a new filling material is a gel which comprises three components. The first component is a water soluble polymer or hydrogel that has a high molecular weight. Alternatively, the first component is both crosslinked and has a high molecular weight. The second component of the filling material is a water-soluble polymer that is eliminated rapidly through the kidneys upon subcutaneous release. The third component of this filling material is saline, which is used to dissolve the polymer and to adjust the osmolality of the polymer. In addition, a buffer may be added to the filling material to adjust the pH of the gel. One gel formulation of the present invention, in its preferred embodiment, consists of polyacrylamide and derivatives thereof.

Filling material for soft tissue implant prostheses and implants made

A new soft tissue implant filling material is disclosed. The material may be polyvinylpyrollidone, polyvinyl alcohol, hydroxypropylmethyl cellulose, polyethylene oxide, hyaluronic acid, sodium or calcium alginate, hydrogel polyurethane, hydroxyethyl starch, polyglycolic acid, polyacrylamide, hydroxyethylmethacrylate (HEMA), and several naturally derived biopolymers including sodium kinate, seaweed, and agar.

The present invention comprises a prostate dilation balloon disposed on a urethral catheter, a fixation balloon also disposed on said catheter, wherein said catheter is partially or completely transparent, and a fiber optic endoscope disposed within said catheter. The scope is arranged so that it can visualize the area outside the catheter in order to determine whether the dilation balloon and fixation balloon are properly located within their respective targets within the urethra and/or bladder. The scope is also capable of focusing on objects which may be present in and along the urethra.

A scope and stent system, the scope providing visibility not only through the urethra but also through the ureter during the insertion and placement of a ureteral stent. The scope is in the form of a fiber optic bundle having an appropriate provision for lighting and lensing thereof, and preferably having a video camera and monitor responsive to the image formed at the opposite end of the scope for viewing during the scope insertion process. The fiber optic bundle itself is made sufficiently small so that the entire scope may be fabricated with the appropriate dimensions of a typical stent guide wire and made sufficiently flexible for negotiating a tortuous path as required. The scope may be first inserted through an open-ended stent and through the urethra, the bladder and the ureter, and then the stent inserted thereover through the use of an appropriate stent pusher, or alternatively the scope, stent and stent pusher may be advanced together, the scope allowing observation of the procedure and the nature and extent of any obstructions encountered in the insertion process. Alternate embodiments include the provision of an additional working channel within the stent to allow an additional instrument such as a laser lithotriptor to be utilized in conjunction with the placement of the stent, as well as alternate forms of scope systems.

A surgical prosthesis is disclosed having a textured exterior surface formed of non-absorbent material substantially free of pores and interstices. The invented device is usable for mammary and other implants. Various methods of manufacturing the device are also disclosed.

Method of making textured surface prosthesis implants

A valve for use in a fluid fillable and implantable device in cooperation with a fill tube includes a main body portion having a channel for receiving the fill tube and wherein the main body portion has an unevenly stressed section that includes a selected section of the channel and wherein the unevenly stressed section is stressed so that the selected section of the channel folds back occluding the channel when the fill tube is withdrawn. The valve also includes a gel-filled chamber in which the main body portion is disposed. The main body portion includes a free end that is occluded by the gel once the fill tube has been withdrawn from the fill tube channel.
