The present invention provides settable compositions and methods of using settable compositions that comprise a hydraulic cement; a partially calcined kiln feed comprising SiO, AlO, FeO, CaO, MgO, SO, NaO, and KO; metakaolin; and water. The location to be cemented may be above ground or in a subterranean formation.

Another embodiment includes a foamed cement composition comprising a cementitious component, an oil-swellable particle comprising a block copolymer of styrene butadiene rubber, a foaming and stabilizing surfactant, and gas.

A variety of methods and compositions are disclosed herein, including, in one embodiment, a method comprising: introducing a settable composition into a subterranean formation, wherein the settable composition comprises: a cementitious component comprising a hydraulic cement and cement kiln dust; a swellable particle; and water; and allowing the settable composition to set in the subterranean formation. An exemplary embodiment of the present invention provides a method of defoaming a well treatment fluid, comprising combining a defoaming composition with the well treatment fluid, wherein the defoaming composition comprises an amide of a carboxylic acid, a polypropylene glycol, an ethoxylated and propoxylated fatty alcohol, an ethoxylated alcohol comprising from 3 carbons to 6 carbons, and a hydrophobic silica in an amount of up to about 3% by weight of the defoaming composition.

Subterranean cementing methods and compositions comprising oil suspensions of water soluble polymers

Exemplary embodiments of the cement compositions comprise water, a cement, and a fluid loss control additive, the fluid loss control additive comprising a graft copolymer. The graft copolymer comprises a backbone and at least four grafted monomers selected from the group consisting of 2-acrylamido-2-methylpropanesulfonic acid, acrylamide, acrylic acid, vinylphosphonic acid, diallyldimethylammonium chloride, and salts thereof. The backbone of the graft copolymer comprises a humic acid salt. Methods of cementing using exemplary embodiments of the cement compositions are also provided.

Another embodiment of the present invention includes a method of cementing in a subterranean formation comprising: providing an extended settable composition comprising hydraulic cement, cement kiln dust, water, and a set retarding additive; storing the extended settable composition; adding a cement set accelerator to the extended settable composition; introducing the extended settable composition into a well bore; and allowing the extended settable composition to set.
