An exemplary method of manufacturing a polymer matrix composite electromagnetic shielding structure includes pretreating a dry fiber reinforcement with a composition including a carrier and a conductive element, laying out the pretreated reinforcement to form a pre-form structure, applying a resin to the pre-form structure, and curing the resin at room temperature. Another exemplary method of manufacturing a polymer matrix composite electromagnetic shielding structure includes laying out a plurality of dry fiber reinforcements, placing at least one ply between any two of the plurality of dry fiber reinforcements, the ply having a non-woven including a conductive material, applying a resin to the plurality of dry fiber reinforcements and the at least one ply, and curing the resin.

Method of fabricating a polymer matrix composite electromagnetic shielding structure

An improved durable, low density, high build polyurethane coating is disclosed, as well as its method of manufacture. A slow reacting polyisocyanate is combined with a polyol so as to form a uniform mixture with an extremely long pot life. The low viscosity uniform mixture can then be sprayed onto a substrate using a conventional spray gun. A polyurethane catalyst is introduced after formation of the uniform mixture, preferably via a second spray nozzle so that catalyst is externally mixed into the polyisocyanate/polyol spray stream. This is a 100%, or near 100%, solids system so that there is very low volatile organic compound emissions.

High build polyurethane coating

A multiple material spray system and method are provided for applying a spray by a single component spray gun. A first material is fed through a tube injector connected to an external port of the single component spray gun and a conventional fluid section feeds a second material through the single component spray gun without being exposed to the first material. A mixing area is positioned to receive the first and second materials outside of the single component spray gun so that these materials can be externally mixed immediately before applying a spray. The external mixing of the materials permits a spray of high viscosity, low VOC materials with fast gel times of approximately 20 to 40 seconds to be used because gelation in the single component spray gun is prevented by the external mixing. Also, the system and method reduce the number of components so that a more cost-effective process is achieved.
