A center cord-line V-belt with a radially centered cord line of helically wound tensile cord embedded in a very high-modulus adhesion gum, an overcord layer, and an undercord layer. The adhesion gum has a substantially isotropic modulus, while the overcord and undercord layers have anisotropy in with-grain and cross-grain moduli. The overcord and undercord cross-grain moduli are less than the adhesion gum modulus. The anisotropic moduli are the result of oriented short fibers and the with-grain modulus is oriented axially in the belt. The adhesion gum preferably has no short fiber. The belt preferably has no reinforcing fabric layer and no fabric wrap. The adhesion gum, overcord layer and undercord layer are preferably based on an ethylene-alpha-olefin elastomer, with peroxide cure, reinforcing filler, and metal salt of an α-β-unsaturated organic acid. The belt may have notches on one or both of the inner and outer radial surfaces for additional flexibility.

Center cord-line V-belt

An endless rubber power transmission belt such as a CVT belt having a main belt body with a compression portion, tension portion, an adhesion portion, and a tensile cord in contact with the adhesion portion and embedded between the compression portion and the tension portion, angled sides, and a width to thickness ratio on the order of 2 to 3. At least one of the compression portion, the tension portion and the adhesion portion has an elastomer composition that includes a saturated ethylene-alpha-olefin elastomer, a staple fiber, and a pulp fiber, or an elastomer, a high-modulus staple fiber, and a high-modulus pulp fiber. The pulp fiber constitutes less than 40% of the total high-modulus fiber amount.

CVT belt

A power transmission belt comprising a body comprising a first elastomeric material and having tensile members running in a longitudinal direction, the body having a pulley engaging region having a profile; characterized in that the pulley engaging region comprises a surface region and a subsurface region; the subsurface region comprising a second elastomeric material having a friction modifying agent; and the surface region comprising a nonwoven fabric material co-mingled with the second elastomeric material.

Power transmission belt

A torsional vibration damper or other vibration damping device with a rubber vibration absorbing element. The rubber element is a peroxide-cured composition comprising 100 parts of ethylene-alpha-olefin elastomer, and 20 to 100 parts of substantially isobutylene or butene polymer having a viscosity average molecular weight greater than about 5000. The polymer may also be a copolymer of isobutylene and isoprene. The addition of the isobutylene polymer to the ethylene-alpha-olefin elastomer composition increases the vibration damping character of the rubber.

A method of manufacturing a belt having a region comprising a non-woven material on a pulley engaging surface. The non-woven region has a random coverage of the non-woven material to reduce natural frequency harmonics, control frictional characteristics, permeation and thermal resistance. The non-woven may comprise a combination of softwood and hardwood pulp, as well as synthetic fibers applied in a random matrix to a body having a fiber loading.

Power transmission belts, including V-belts, synchronous belts and multi-V-ribbed belts, comprising an elastomeric belt body portion and a load-carrying section embedded therein and extending in the longitudinal direction of the belt; the load-carrying section comprising a tensile member disposed in an adhesive rubber member, wherein at least one of said elastomeric belt body portion and said adhesive rubber member exhibits at least one of a complex modulus measured at 175&deg; C., at 2000.0 cpm and at a strain of 0.09 degrees, of at least 15,000 kPa; and a tensile modulus, measur and 10% elongation, of at least 250 psi (1.724 MPa).

Power transmission belt having high modulus adhesive rubber member

Elastomeric compositions for incorporation in articles subject to dynamic loading, comprising an ethylene-alpha-olefin elastomer which is reinforced with a filler and a metal salt of an .alpha.-.beta.-unsaturated organic acid. This composition is cured using a free-radical promoting material. The invention includes articles subject to dynamic loading incorporating these elastomeric compositions, and belting, including power transmission and flat belting incorporating as their main belt body portions these elastomeric compositions.
