Embodiments of the present invention provide modular grid systems for use with aperture-forming devices. The modular grid system includes a plurality of modular grids, wherein each modular grid includes an outer frame, an outer partial ring coupled to the frame, and at least one inner partial ring coupled to the outer partial ring via at least one securable connection, wherein the outer partial ring and the at least one inner partial ring form arcs of greater than 180 degrees but less than 360 degrees. Each modular grid is coupled to an adjacent modular grid. In some embodiments, the outer frame comprises a removable bar. In some embodiments, the plurality of modular grids are oriented in the same direction. In some embodiments, the modular grid is configured to couple to an aperture-forming device, where the aperture-forming device has a diameter ranging from 2 to 6 inches.

Devices and methods for twisting yarn may twist a strip of material, such as a paper strip, into a yarn, such as a paper yarn. Such devices and methods may involve positioning a pad formed from a roll of the material horizontally in a yarn twisting device, such that the strip of material is unwound and drawn from an outer circumference of the pad, but down through the center of the pad, and subsequently through a rotating yarn twister.

Systems, apparatuses and methods for cutting and spooling paper are described. In one embodiment, a system for cutting a traveling web of paper that is being wound onto a first spool and transferring the paper web onto a second spool by feeding turn-up tape into a nip between the second spool and the paper web, comprises a transfer track for transporting the turn-up tape beneath the paper web and to a position adjacent to the nip, and a drive assembly capable of driving the turn-up tape along the transfer track toward the nip, wherein the drive is capable of being powered by manual power or motor power.

Method and apparatus for binding a bundle using an elongate flat strap having a heat sensitive adhesive thereon. The apparatus includes mechanism for driving the strap in a loop around the bundle, a gripper for gripping an end of the strap, mechanism for drawing the strap taut about the bundle, and heated press elements for clamping adjacent overlapping portions of the strap together to reactivate adhesive in the strap to bond the overlapping sections together. A cutter severs remainder portions of the strap.

Apparatuses and methods are provided for cutting a traveling web of paper that is being spooled on a full spool and transferring the paper web to spool on an empty spool by driving turn-up tape into a nip between the empty spool and the paper web. The apparatuses and methods provide a more problem free way of transferring a traveling paper web to an empty spool. The apparatuses include a drive and a transfer track for transporting the tape beneath the paper web and delivering the tape into the nip, the transfer track including, a horizontal section having a front end and a back end and a first groove running the length of the horizontal section, the first groove being defined by a first top wall, a first side wall, a first bottom wall, and a first flexible seal such that the turn-up tape travels substantially vertical in the direction of travel underneath the paper web, and a turn-up section connected to the back end of the horizontal section, the turn-up section being curved upwardly from the horizontal section to a position adjacent to the empty spool, and the turn-up section having a second groove running the length of the turn-up section, the second groove being defined by a second top wall, a second side wall, a second bottom wall, and a second flexible seal, the turn-up tape traveling substantially perpendicular to the second bottom wall, whereby the drive is capable of driving the turn-up tape to the end of the transfer track. The methods including rotating an equal angle cam in contact with the turn-up tape to move the tape down the transfer track and into the nip.

Apparatuses and methods for cutting and spooling paper

A frangible insert that is inserted in a pre-positioned bushing in the wall of a manhole form from the convex, easily reached side of the inner form wall. A key in the insert is received in a keyway in the bushing in the form wall so that the insert is properly oriented in the form. Concrete is then poured into the form, enveloping and affixing the insert within the man hole wall. A weakened, frangible region is provided on the insert in a position immediately adjacent to the form wall so that after the concrete is cured, the manhole and form can simply be separated, causing the portion of the insert embedded in the concrete to separate from the insert portion in the form bushing.

A manhole lift insert positioning apparatus consisting of: (1) a threaded nut imbedded in a thermoplastic elastomer molding that fits snugly within a lift insert, and (2) a threaded wing bolt to engage the nut and expand the molding within the insert, thereby locking it in position and drawing the molding against the inside face of the concrete form, thus sealing the insert opening to avoid obstruction of that opening with concrete.

Classifying and processing post-consumer plastic scrap materials for subsequent utilization. Post-consumer plastic scrap of various kinds, such as colored HDPE, natural HDPE, green PET and clear PET are separating into constituent fractions, and each fraction is separately reduced to flakes. At least some of the fractions are separately washed to remove fragments of labels or other foreign matter previously in place on the plastic bottles or other containers making up those scrap constituents.
