A bone marrow access apparatus includes a bone penetrating member and a cap. The bone penetrating member includes a tubular insertion portion, and a head portion provided at a proximal end of the tubular insertion portion. A cross-sectional shape of the head portion is wider than a cross-sectional shape of the tubular insertion portion. A recess is provided in the head portion, and an internal channel is provided through the head portion and the tubular insertion portion. The cap accommodates the head portion of the bone penetrating member therein. The cap includes a lower wall which covers at least a part of a distal side of the head portion, and a projection which projects into the recess of the head portion.

Bone marrow access apparatus and methods for locating same

A bone marrow access apparatus includes a bone penetrating member having an internal channel having an opening at a proximal end and an opening at a distal end. A valve cap is engaged with the bone penetrating member, the valve cap defining an interior cavity in which part of the bone penetrating member is situated. The valve cap includes a valve having an opening having an open state in which the channel is not obstructed and a closed state to prevent flow of a material through the channel. The valve is repeatedly switchable between the open and closed states. The bone penetrating member has an upper surface and a seat which is below the upper surface, the seat being located at an interior of the bone penetrating member, and the seat being engageable with an installation or removal instrument.

Bone marrow access apparatus

Bone marrow access apparatus includes a bone penetrating member and a cap. The bone penetrating member includes a tubular insertion portion, and a head portion provided at a proximal end of the tubular insertion portion. A cross-sectional shape of the head portion is wider than a cross-sectional shape of the tubular insertion portion. A recess is provided in the head portion, and an internal channel is provided through the head portion and the tubular insertion portion. The cap accommodates the head portion of the bone penetrating member therein. The apparatus includes a bone penetrating member having an internal channel having openings at proximal and distal ends, and a valve cap engaged with the bone penetrating member. The valve cap includes a valve having an opening having an open state in which the channel is not obstructed and a closed state preventing flow of material through the channel. The delivery tool includes a flange at one end and a drill bit extending beyond the flange. The flange fits in a seat in the bone penetrating member such that when the delivery tool is rotated while the flange is in the seat, the bone penetrating member is rotated into the bone.
