A cooling system for a fuel-cell system onboard a vehicle such as an aircraft in one embodiment employs the latent heat of evaporation of a two-phase coolant to reduce mass and parasitic power requirements of the cooling system. In another embodiment the cooling system has a primary ambient air heat exchanger coolant loop for cooling the fuel-cell system, and a secondary coolant loop comprising a fluid circuit configured to circulate a coolant in thermal contact with a phase-change material (PCM) in thermal contact with the fuel-cell to absorb heat from the fuel-cell. The secondary coolant loop includes a heat pump for cooling the PCM.

A hydrogen boiloff capture system. The hydrogen boiloff capture system having a cryogenic tank for storing liquid hydrogen. The hydrogen boiloff capture system also includes an intermediate tank fluidically coupled with the cryogenic tank. The intermediate tank is configured to receive hydrogen gas boiloff from the cryogenic tank. The intermediate tank is further configured to provide the hydrogen gas boiloff to a lighter-than-air craft to regulate buoyancy of the lighter-than-air craft. The intermediate tank is also configured to provide the hydrogen gas boiloff to a hydrogen fuel cell coupled to the lighter-than-air craft.

The mixture provides buoyancy for the lighter-than-air craft. A hydrogen fuel cell fluidically coupled with the mixture and configured to utilize the mixture to generate electricity. A propulsion system is coupled to the envelope, and the propulsion system is configured to provide propulsion for the lighter-than-air craft. The propulsion system is electrically coupled with the hydrogen fuel cell and receives electricity generated by the hydrogen fuel cell. The propulsion system is configured to utilize the electricity in providing the propulsion to the lighter-than-air craft.

Disclosed is a system for humidifying cabin and/or cockpit air of a fuel cell-powered aircraft system. The system includes a fuel cell stack configured for reacting hydrogen and oxygen to produce electrical energy and a cathode exhaust containing moist, warm air; a water separator configured to cool the moist, warm air and to condense and separate liquid water from the moist, warm air; and a humidifier configured to employ the separated liquid water to humidify pressurized cabin air.

A cooling system and cooling method for a fuel cell onboard a vehicle, wherein the fuel cell includes a gasifier configured to expand liquid hydrogen to gaseous hydrogen for feed to the fuel cell, the cooling system including a coolant system sized for less than peak power operation of the vehicle; and an auxiliary coolant system configured to provide supplemental cooling to the fuel cell, wherein the supplemental coolant system is configured to by-pass coolant to the gasifier and employ heat of gasification of the liquid hydrogen to provide supplemental cooling for the fuel cell during peak vehicle operation.

For example, an optical sensor for imaging an input object, comprises: a sensor substrate comprising detector pixels; a scattering layer; a cover layer including a sensing surface, wherein the scattering layer is disposed between the sensor substrate and the cover layer; and, a light source. The optical sensor is configured to: illuminate the light source causing light beams to emanate from the light source to produce an effect of a point light source at the scattering layer; and acquire image data, from one or more detector pixels, of an input object in contact with the sensing surface, wherein the image data corresponds to light from the light source that is reflected at the sensing surface of the cover layer.

Disclosed is a device for optical sensing, comprising: a display comprising a transparent substrate and a plurality of light emitters disposed above the transparent substrate; a transparent cover layer disposed above the display, wherein a top surface of the transparent cover layer provides an input surface for sensing an input object; and, an angled filter disposed below the transparent substrate of the display, wherein the angled filter is configured to allow light within a tolerance angle of an acceptance angle to pass through the angled filter, wherein the acceptance angle is centered around a non-zero angle relative to a normal of the input surface.

A device and system for automatically tracking a baseline input into a biometric sensor is provided. The device and system include a processing system with an amplifier having an input terminal and an output terminal for producing an output signal based on the input signal received by the input terminal. The processing system further includes at least one signal conditioning element coupled to the input terminal of the amplifier and configured to condition a compensation signal, and the processing system further includes a control circuit that adjusts one or more signal conditioning parameters of the at least one signal conditioning element based on the output signal of the amplifier. The at least one input signal received by the input terminal includes a combination of the at least one compensation signal and a signal from a first set of one or more receiver electrodes of the biometric sensor.

A transparent sensor pattern suitable for sensing fingerprint information in a display area is disclosed. The sensor pattern includes a receiver electrode extending in a first direction and a transmitter electrode extending in a second direction different from the first direction. The receiver electrode includes a conductive trace made from an opaque metal material and the receiver electrode is substantially free of transparent conductive material. The transmitter electrode includes a conductive segment made from a transparent conductive material. Systems and methods for image alignment are disclosed. A method includes: determining a first set of patches for a first image and a second set of patches for a second image, wherein each patch in the first and second sets of patches comprises a portion of the first and second image, respectively; determining a set of possible match pairings of a patch from the first set and a patch from the second set; for each match pairing in the set of possible match pairings, computing a transformation operation to align the patch from the first set of patches and the patch from the second set of patches in the match pairing; grouping the match pairings into clusters based on parameters of the transformation operations of the match pairings; and, performing the transformation operation corresponding to at least one cluster to align the first image to the second image.
