Proposed is a sinker () provided with a region () of reduced thickness on its working part (). As a result, a clearance space is created on at least one side of the sinker (). This clearance space makes it possible to reduce the distance between the sinker () and the latch needle () or to reduce the wear between these two elements. The clearance space furthermore does not change the distance between the sinker and the latch needle on the other side of the sinker. The sinker () according to the invention preferably has a clearance space on both sides, so that this sinker can be used in circular knitting machines which are designed for both rotational directions.

The cutting needle () according to the invention is, for example, a latch needle and has a knife element () secured to the shank (). The knife element () defines a cutting edge () which projects obliquely upward from the shank. The knife element () is arranged externally of the range of motion of the latch () and cuts open a loop situated on the shank when it is overdriven outward. The knife element () is made, for example, of a suitable spring steel and is held unremovably on the shank ().

The needles ( ) of a needle set ( ), which substantially agree in their geometry, have butts ( ) of different lengths, which have a predetermined breaking point ( ). The predetermined breaking points are differently embodied, so that the breaking torques of the butts ( ) of the needles ( ), which are a part of the set ( ), are different. By means of this it is possible, on the one hand, to assuredly prevent damage to the knitting machine, but on the other hand to assure the dependable operation of the needles.
