A method of treating skin is disclosed. The method can include topically applying to a person's skin a composition comprising 0.0001% to 5% w/w of a hydrolyzed algae extract comprising exopolysaccharides from, and 0.0001% to 5% w/w of a saccharide isomerate comprising an exopolysaccharide synthesized by, wherein at least one of skin permeability is decreased, filaggrin production is increased, skin moisture is increased, occludin production is increased, or TNFα production is inhibited in the skin.

Topical skin formulations

A method for applying a cosmetic composition to skin is disclosed. The method can include applying a first composition to skin that includes at least about 50% by weight of a volatile hydrocarbon, a film former, a solvent comprising an ester group, and a combination of ultraviolet A (UVA) and ultraviolet B (UVB) sunscreen agents, wherein the UVA sunscreen agent comprises 4-tert-butyl-4'-methoxydibenzoylmethane, wherein the first composition has an SPF of at least about 15 and a PFA of at least about 5, and wherein the first composition dries within two minutes after topical application to skin, and subsequently applying the cosmetic composition onto the first composition.

Topical skin formulation

Disclosed is a gel, and corresponding methods for its use, having an SPF of at least 15 comprising at least about 50% by weight of a volatile hydrocarbon, a film former, a solvent comprising an ester group, a combination of ultraviolet A (UVA) and ultraviolet B (UVB) sunscreen agents, wherein the UVA sunscreen agent comprises 4-tert-butyl-4'-methoxydibenzoylmethane, wherein the PFA of the gel is at least about 5 or at least about 8, and wherein the gel is capable of drying within two minutes after topical application to skin.

The present invention relates generally to methods and compositions useful for application to skin and hair comprising hydrolyzed algae extract, saccharide isomerate, and a dermatologically acceptable vehicle wherein the composition or method is capable of moisturizing and/or improving the appearance and/or condition of skin and/or hair.
