The invention relates to a power distribution system comprising a power providing device () for providing power and a powered device () like a luminaire to be powered by the power providing device. The power providing device and the powered device are operable in a maximum power mode and a normal operation mode, wherein in the maximum power mode the powered device consumes an amount of power maximally consumable by the powered device and the power providing device measures the power consumed by the powered device. This measured power allows for an allocation of an amount of power in the operational mode, which is really maximally needed, wherein it is not necessary to allocate a larger amount of power, which is large enough to consider, for instance, a maximally assumed length of an electrical connection () connecting the devices, thereby improving the power budget allocation.

Power distribution system

The invention provides an LED chip having an integrated electrostatic switch for electromechanical control of the LED. A suspended beam switch floats above a conductive control electrode, and by a charging of the electrode may be attracted downward to make connection between an LED structure and an external electrode. Components are mounted on a common substrate so that a fully integrated LED with MEMS switch is formed. Methods for producing the LED chip are further provided, in which production of the switching mechanism is fully integrated with the production of the LED structure.

The invention relates to a power splitter for a variable number of loads, a power splitting method for a variable number of loads and a software product for power splitting. It is possible to provide power splitting for a variable number of loads, which allows for an efficient distribution of power while reducing unnecessary overhead, with the determination of an overall power demand for the variable number of loads being concentrated in the power splitter, which may then request the desired amount of power from the power supply.

A light unit () including one or more lighting devices, in particular one or more LEDs is disclosed. The light unit comprises input terminals () for connecting the light unit to an external power supply () and for receiving an input voltage (V) from the external power supply. A first lighting device and at least one additional lighting device () connected in series to the input terminals and a charge storage device () is connected in series to the first lighting device. The first lighting device () and the additional lighting device () forms a tapped linear driver that the number of the lighting device () being turned on depending on an amplitude of the input voltage (V). The first lighting device or a second lighting device () is electrically connectable in parallel to the charge storage device via an additional current path (), wherein the charge storage device is adapted be switched in series with the tapped linear driver and be charged within a second time duration (tto t), when the input voltage (V) is above a threshold, and discharge when the input voltage (V) is below a certain level, to provide electrical power to the first lighting device or the second lighting device for powering the first lighting device or the second lighting device.

Light unit and method for controlling a light unit

The invention relates a system for controlling distribution of power to load elements via network connections (e.g. LAN). Low cost luminaires or other load elements can be powered via LAN connections (e.g. by power over Ethernet (PoE)) without featuring an Internet Protocol (IP) node. This is attractive because with such a system the installation cost down benefits of PoE can be applied also to installations that do not require advanced controls. This means that to switch them on or off, the power supply on the LAN port of the switch must be enabled or disabled. When load elements and load controllers (e.g. lighting controllers or light switches) are connected to the same switch, they are automatically paired to each other. This can be achieved through use of a network management protocol capability that some network switches have. This allows for easy installation and automatic intuitive commissioning.

The invention relates a power distribution system () like a track lighting system comprising a power supply (), a power bar () comprising several electrical conductors () for distributing the power, an electrical load () to be powered by the power of the power distribution system, a selector switch () connected to the several electrical conductors and to the electrical load, wherein the selector switch is adapted to select via which electrical conductor the power is to be received by the electrical load, and a controlling device () for automatically controlling the selector switch. This kind of power distribution system provides a relatively large variability of adapting the power consumption to an actual load situation, which can lead to an improved performance of the power distribution system. In particular, power balancing can be provided in a relatively simple way by automatically controlling the selector switch accordingly.

The present invention relates to a method and apparatus for disconnecting a bias current circuitry () in a way that there is no bias current flowing anymore for the transmit output of a network controller (), e.g. Ethernet controller. Also, the data connection, e.g., TX+ and TX&#x2212; lines in or at an Ethernet connector (), are connected to a control circuitry () to simulate an active connection by taking over supply of link activation pulses, e.g., link integrity test (LIT) pulses. To avoid clock signals and to separate power wiring from control wiring in a driver, and to avoid three-terminal light emitting diodes with control electrodes, a driver for driving light emitting diode circuits () is provided with first and second terminals () for receiving a voltage signal from a source () and with a first switching circuit () coupled to the second terminal () and to a third terminal (). The first and the thirdterminal () are to be coupled to electrodes of a first light emitting diode circuit (). The first switching circuit () comprises a first switch () and a first timing circuit () for, in response to a first pulse signal as added to the voltage signal, activating the first switch () to switch on the first light emitting diode circuit (). An integrated circuitcomprises a timing closure monitoring circuit. The timing closure monitoring circuitcomprises a duplicate path, having the same characteristics as a logic pathbeing monitored. The duplicate pathreceives a pulsed reference signalfrom a reference generating unit (RGU). The pulsed reference signalis synchronized with the clock signal, and passed through the duplicate pathto a reference checking unit (RCU). In a normal mode of operation in which timing closure is guaranteed, the clock signalwill sample the pulsed reference signal, such that no interrupt signal is generated on the interrupt line. However, in the situation where the reference check unitis clocked by the clock signalprior to the pulsed reference signalbeing received via the duplicate path, an interrupt signal is generated on the interrupt line, indicating that timing closure cannot be guaranteed.
