Systems and methods usable in delivering a docking device to a native valve of a patient's heart. A docking device can be connected to a pusher tool by a line, such as a suture. A member of the pusher tool can be rotatable to change the amount of the suture extending from the pusher tool. A locking mechanism can be used to fix or lock the pusher tool in position.

Systems and mechanisms for deploying a docking device for a replacement heart valve

A method of treating mitral valve stenosis in a human heart includes advancing a delivery apparatus through a right femoral vein, across a septal wall, and through a calcified mitral valve. A prosthetic heart valve is provided along a distal end portion of the delivery apparatus, wherein the prosthetic heart valve includes a metallic frame having a plurality of tissue-engaging elements positioned along an exterior surface and a leaflet structure for replacing the function of the calcified mitral valve. The prosthetic heart valve is radially expanded within an annulus of the calcified mitral valve such that at least some of the tissue-engaging elements of the prosthetic heart valve embed into the annulus. After radial expansion, the prosthetic heart valve is retained in position within the annulus via the tissue-engaging element and the leaflet structure replaces the function of the native mitral valve.

Method of treating mitral valve stenosis

Anchoring or docking devices configured to be positioned at a native valve of a human heart and to provide structural support for docking a prosthetic valve therein. The docking devices can have coiled structures that define an inner space in which the prosthetic valve can be held. The docking devices can have enlarged end regions with circular or non-circular shapes, for example, to facilitate implantation of the docking device or to better hold the docking device in position once deployed. The docking devices can be laser-cut tubes with locking wires to assist in better maintaining a shape of the docking device. The docking devices can include various features to promote friction, such as frictional cover layers. Such docking devices can have ends configured to more securely attach the cover layers to cores of the docking devices.

Heart valve docking coils and systems

A cardiac device comprises a first anchoring element configured to be attached to a first side of a tissue wall, a second anchoring element configured to be attached to a second side of the tissue wall, and a cinching device. The cinching device is configured to attach to the first anchoring element and the second anchoring element and apply force to the first anchoring element to move the first anchoring element towards the second anchoring element and at least partially compress the tissue wall.

Tissue compression anchors

A radiopaque frame is transluminally advanced to an atrium of a heart of a subject. The frame is expanded within a valve adjacent the atrium such that part of the frame remains disposed in the atrium. While the frame remains expanded within the valve, progressive portions of an annuloplasty structure are progressively positioned and anchored around the annulus using multiple anchors by, for each of the anchors sequentially (i) while fluoroscopically imaging the frame and a distal end of a delivery tool, and facilitated by mechanical guidance from the frame, positioning the distal end of the delivery tool between the frame and a wall of the atrium; and (ii) driving the anchor into the annulus laterally from the frame. Subsequently, the frame is contracted and withdrawn from the subject while leaving the annuloplasty structure anchored around the annulus. Other embodiments are also described.

Fluoroscopic visualization of heart valve anatomy

A method can comprise deploying a prosthetic valve with a delivery apparatus, where the prosthetic valve comprises a frame and a rotatable screw connected to the frame, and where the screw comprises a screw head having an annular bore with internal threads. The delivery apparatus is releasably coupled to the screw and can comprise a first shaft and a first head disposed at an end of the first shaft, the first head comprising external threads releasably engaged with the internal threads of the screw head, and a second shaft that is coaxial with and surrounds the first shaft, the second shaft comprising a second head disposed at an end of the second shaft, the second head releasably engaged with an exterior surface of the screw head. Deploying the valve includes radially expanding the prosthetic valve by rotating the screw with the delivery apparatus.

Mechanically expanding heart valve and delivery apparatus therefor

A docking device for docking a prosthetic valve at a native valve of a heart can include a coil comprising a plurality of turns and having a proximal end and distal end. The docking device can further include a first covering disposed around and covering the coil from the distal end to the proximal end of the coil, and a second covering disposed over the first covering. A distal end and proximal end of the second covering are spaced away from a distal end and proximal end, respectively, of the first covering.

Heart valve docking devices and systems

In one embodiment, a prosthetic valve assembly includes an annular frame being radially expandable and compressible between a radially compressed configuration and a radially expanded configuration, a valvular structure comprising a plurality of leaflets mounted inside the annular frame, a plurality of posts mounted on an interior surface of the annular frame, and a pair of commissure attachment members extending outwardly from each post and away from each other. Each two adjacent leaflets can form a pair of commissure tabs. Each pair of commissure tabs can be attached to a corresponding pair of the commissure attachment members.

Mechanically expandable heart valve

A prosthetic heart valve has a frame including a plurality of strut members, the frame being radially expandable and collapsible between a collapsed state and an expanded state, the frame having an inflow end and an outflow end and defining a longitudinal axis. A leaflet structure is situated at least partially within the frame. A covering is disposed around an exterior of the frame and includes a cushioning layer, a first strip of material coupled to the cushioning layer and folded to encapsulate apices of the strut members of the inflow end of the frame, and a second strip of material coupled to the cushioning layer and folded to encapsulate apices of the strut members of the outflow end of the frame. The cushioning layer includes texturized filaments that provide compressible volume and a plush surface to the cushioning layer when the frame is in the expanded state.

Covered prosthetic heart valve

An implantable prosthetic device can include a frame that is radially expandable and compressible between a radially compressed configuration and a radially expanded configuration. The frame can have a first set of a plurality of struts extending in a first direction, and a second set of a plurality of struts extending in a second direction, and each strut of the first set of struts can be pivotably connected to at least one strut of the second set of struts. Each strut can be curved helically with respect to a first, longitudinal axis of the frame, and each strut can be curved with respect to a second axis that is perpendicular to the first, longitudinal axis of the frame.

Prosthetic heart valve having non-cylindrical frame

Valvular implants and blood vessel closure devices herein are configured to be positioned in the heart and to block regurgitant blood flow from the heart into blood vessels supplying blood to the heart. The valvular implants can have a cover, a membrane, a valve, a resilient frame, and/or other features. Some valvular implants can have anchors to be positioned in the blood vessels, such as in pulmonary veins, and can anchor the implant to the heart wall. Various embodiments of covers and/or membranes act as valves contracting and expanding, to alternately permit and block blood flow. The valvular implants can cover one or more blood vessels, such as one, two, three, or four pulmonary veins, and can also be configured and implanted to block an appendage to the heart, such as the left atrial appendage.

An expandable sheath is disclosed herein, which has a first polymeric layer and a braided layer positioned radially outward of the first polymeric layer. The braided layer includes a plurality of filaments braided together. The expandable sheaths further include a resilient elastic layer positioned radially outward of the braided layer. The elastic layer is configured to apply radial force to the braided layer and the first polymeric layer. The expandable sheath further includes a second polymeric layer positioned radially outward of the elastic layer and bonded to the first polymeric layer such that the braided layer and the elastic layer are encapsulated between the first and second polymeric layers. Methods of making and using the devices disclosed herein are also disclosed, as are crimping devices that may be used in methods of making the devices disclosed herein.

Expandable sheath

An assembly can comprise a prosthetic valve comprising a radially expandable and compressible frame and a rotatable screw connected to the frame, where the screw comprises a screw head having an annular bore with internal threads, and where the screw is rotatable to radially expand the frame. The assembly further comprises a delivery apparatus releasably coupled to the screw, the delivery apparatus comprising a first shaft and a first head disposed at an end of the first shaft, the first head comprising external threads configured to engage with the internal threads of the screw head, and a second shaft that is coaxial with and surrounds the first shaft, the second shaft comprising a second head disposed at an end of the second shaft. The second head is configured to releasably engage with an exterior surface of the screw head and rotate the screw.

Exemplary embodiments of devices and method for affecting at least one anatomical tissue can be provided. A configuration can be provided that includes a structure which is expandable (i) having and/or (ii) forming at least one opening or a working space through which the anatomical tissue(s) is placed in the structure. For example, the structure, prior to being expanding, can have at least one partially rigid portion. In addition, or as an alternative, upon a partial or complete expansion thereof, the structure can be controllable to have a plurality of shapes. Further, the structure can be controllable to provide the working space with multiple shapes and/or multiple sizes.
