An electronic messaging method may include storing at least one information field to be included in electronic messages on a message server in one of a plurality of different character set formats, and receiving electronic message body text at the message server to be included in an electronic message for a given communications network from among a plurality of communications networks. The body text may have a respective character set format. The method may further include comparing the character set format of the body text with the character set format of the at least one information field and, if the at least one information field is displayable in the character set format of the body text, then formatting the at least one information field in the character set format of the body text. Otherwise, the body text and the at least one information field may be formatted in a default character set format associated with the given communications network.

Electronic mail system providing message character set formatting features and related methods

Distributed assembly of data packets into messages at a group of interface devices that receive data packets from within a coverage area. Each interface device in the group will take ownership of a sequence of data packets forming a message when a data packet of the message meeting predetermined criteria is received by that interface device. Once an interface device takes ownership of a sequence of data packets, it sends a request to the other interface devices for any missing data packets of the sequence that the ownership claiming interface does not have, and then assembles message upon receiving all the data packets of the sequence.

Distributed wireless packet assembly

A system and method for identifying a single, designated connection from one or more connections (e.g. TCP connections) that may have been established between two components for data communications. Each component is associated with a component identifier that is generated by an identifier generating algorithm adapted to ensure that component identifiers generated by the algorithm are orderable and substantially unique. For example, Universally Unique Identifiers may be generated for this purpose. Each component in the distributed system can be uniquely identified by its component identifier, and the component identifiers facilitate the identification of each component as either a controller or responder in a determination of whether a particular connection should be identified as the designated connection. In one embodiment, that particular connection is identified as the designated connection unless an earlier established connection exists that neither the first component nor the second component knows to be broken. In that case, the earlier established connection may be identified as the designated connection.
