Aspects of the disclosure can relate to a process for transmitting a pump-off pressure profile for formation integrity testing within a limited bandwidth. For example, a process may include measuring pump-off pressure data. The pump-off pressure data represents the pump-off pressure profile. The method also includes determining, from the pump-off pressure data, a pump-off pressure data portion corresponding to a formation integrity testing characteristic. The method also includes compressing pump-off pressure data portion with a compression protocol to produce compression bits. The compression bits representing the pump-off pressure data portion corresponding to the formation integrity testing characteristic. The method also includes transmitting, via a communication module, the compression bits to a computing device.

Aspects of the disclosure can relate to a method for transmitting a pump-off pressure profile within a limited bandwidth. For example, a method may include selecting a compression protocol based upon at least one of a time length associated with the pump-off pressure data, a relative mean-squared error associated with the pump-off pressure data, or a maximum error associated with the pump-off pressure data. The method also includes compressing pump-off pressure data with the compression protocol to produce compression bits. The compression bits represent the pump-off pressure profile. The method also includes transmitting, via a communication module, the compression bits to a computing device.

Pumps-off annular pressure while drilling system

A method for transmitting data from a downhole tool is provided. In one embodiment, the method includes acquiring data for a formation fluid through downhole fluid analysis with a downhole tool in a well. The acquired data can include optical spectrum data measured with a spectrometer and other data. The method also includes generating time blocks of the acquired data and transmitting the time blocks from the downhole tool. More particularly, generating the time blocks may include compressing at least some of the optical spectrum data according to a first compression technique and compressing at least some of the other data according to one or more additional compression techniques. The compressed data can be packaged into the time blocks such that at least some of the time blocks include both compressed optical spectrum data and compressed other data for the formation fluid. Additional methods, systems, and devices are also disclosed.

Compression and transmission of measurements from downhole tool

Data transmission from a bottom hole assembly (BHA) includes obtaining a scan from multiple scans forming a downhole data log of a borehole within a subterranean formation. The scan includes a sequence of data items from a sensor in the BHA located in the borehole. Each data item corresponds to an azimuth angle of the sensor. Further, compressed scan data is generated from the sequence of data items on a per-scan basis, and transmitted, using a pre-determined borehole telemetry, to a surface unit.

A method for transmitting data from a downhole tool to a surface location includes running a downhole tool into a wellbore. The downhole tool includes a pressure sensor. An annulus pressure in the wellbore is measured at a first time, using the pressure sensor, to produce a first pressure measurement. The first pressure measurement is compressed to produce a reference sample. The reference sample is transmitted to the surface location. The annulus pressure in the wellbore is measured at a second time, using the pressure sensor, to produce a second pressure measurement. A difference between the first pressure measurement and the second pressure measurement is determined to produce a first delta pressure measurement. The first delta pressure measurement is compressed to produce a first compressed delta pressure measurement. The first compressed delta pressure measurement is transmitted to the surface location.

The systems and methods convert original data collected by a sensor from a first domain into a second domain, wherein the original data is associated with one or more properties of an underground formation. A predetermined number of significant coefficients is selected from components of the second domain, wherein the predetermined number of significant coefficients are components of the second domain with largest amplitudes. The selected predetermined number of significant coefficients is quantized via an quantization technique and the selected predetermined number of significant coefficients is encoded into compressed data via an encoder.
