A cutting element comprises a supporting substrate, a cutting table comprising a hard material attached to the supporting substrate, and a fluid flow pathway extending through the supporting substrate and the cutting table. The fluid flow pathway is configured to direct fluid delivered to an outermost boundary of the supporting substrate through internal regions of the supporting substrate and the cutting table. A method of forming a cutting element and an earth-boring tool are also described.

Methods of forming cutting elements

An instrumented cutting element, an earth-boring drilling tool, and related methods are disclosed. The instrumented cutting element may include a substrate base, a diamond table disposed on the substrate base, a sensor disposed within the diamond table, a lead wire coupled to the sensor and disposed within a side trench formed within the substrate base, and a filler material disposed within the side trench. The earth-boring drilling tool may include securing the instrumented cutting element to a blade of a bit body. A related method may include forming the instrumented cutting element and earth-boring drilling tool.

A method of forming a tool for forming or servicing a wellbore includes disposing a retaining member comprising a shape memory material in a space between a first body and a second body and transforming the shape memory material from a first solid phase to a second solid phase by application of a stimulus to cause the retaining member to create a mechanical interference.

An earth-boring tool includes a bit body and an actuator coupled to the bit body. The actuator includes at least one shape memory material configured to transform from a first shape to a second shape to move a bearing pad or a cutting element with respect to the bit body in response to a stimulus. A transformation from the first shape to the second shape includes a phase change from a first solid phase to a second solid phase. A depth-of-cut limiter includes a bearing element and at least one shape memory material coupled to the bearing element. A method of forming or servicing a wellbore includes rotating an earth-boring tool within a wellbore, applying a stimulus to an actuator to convert at least one shape memory material from a first shape to a second shape, and continuing to rotate the earth-boring tool within the wellbore after applying the stimulus.

Earth-boring tools, depth-of-cut limiters, and methods of forming or servicing a wellbore

An earth-boring tool includes a tool body, at least one cutting element, and a retaining member comprising a shape memory material (e.g., alloy, polymer, etc.) located between a surface of the tool body and a surface of the cutting element. The shape memory material is configured to transform, responsive to application of a stimulus, from a first solid phase to a second solid phase. The retaining member comprises the shape memory material in the second solid phase, and at least partially retains the at least one cutting element adjacent the tool body. The shape memory material may be trained in a first phase to a first shape, and trained in a second phase to a second shape. The retaining member may be at least partially within a cavity in the first phase, then transformed to the second phase to apply a force securing the cutting element to the tool body.

Earth-boring tools and methods for forming earth-boring tools using shape memory materials

It is an object of the present disclosure to provide a formulation for injectable collagenase which will have extended residence time for the drug at the therapeutic targeted area for the indication being treated. It is a further object of the disclosure to provide a slow release formulation for collagenase which is compatible with the active ingredient and does not adversely affect its activity. Still a further object of the disclosure is to provide an injectable formulation for collagenase which can be effectively administered to a patient with a small size needle without exhibiting pregelation, which would interfere with the ability to deliver the required dose for treatment.

A downhole tool for use in wellbores comprises a layer of hydrophobic material over a body, wherein the layer of hydrophobic material comprises a transition metal boride having a higher hydrophobicity than the body. The downhole tool may comprise a body having a composition and the layer of hydrophobic material comprising a discontinuous phase of the transition metal binder dispersed within a first continuous phase comprising a metal binder. The layer of material may be chemically bonded to the body. An interface between the body and the layer of material may comprise the transition metal boride dispersed within a second continuous phase comprising the metal binder and the composition of the body. Methods of forming downhole tools include forming such a layer of material at a surface of a body of a downhole tool.

Downhole tools having hydrophobic coatings, and methods of manufacturing such tools

An earth-boring tool includes a tool body having an aperture therein defining a nozzle port, a nozzle or nozzle assembly disposed in the nozzle port, and a shape memory material disposed adjacent a surface of at least one component of the nozzle or nozzle assembly. The shape memory material retains at least one component of the nozzle or nozzle assembly by a threadless connection. The threadless connection includes mechanical interference between the shape memory material, the at least one component of the nozzle or nozzle assembly, and the tool body or another component of the nozzle or nozzle assembly. The shape memory material is formulated and configured to transform from a first phase and a first shape upon heating and to transform from a second phase and a second shape upon cooling.
