A method and system corrects steering of a vehicle upon a brake system malfunction. The brake system has a diagonal split layout. An electronic brake system (EBS) controls operation of the master cylinder. An electronic power steering system (EPS) includes sensors to measure motion and torque of a steering column of the vehicle and includes a motor to provide torque to the steering column. During driver braking when one of the brake circuits has failed, the system calculates a yaw torque value introduced by a driver braking with just one functioning brake circuit. Based on a steer wheel angle and a steer wheel torque obtained from the sensors of the EPS and on the yaw torque value, a steer wheel torque request defining a steer wheel torque/angle needed to counter the yaw torque value is calculated and sent the EPS which operates the motor to compensate for the steering deviation.

Driver steer recommendation upon loss of one brake circuit of a diagonal spilt layout

A method of detecting for primary circuit loss of an electronic stability control system for a vehicle comprises checking that a lateral acceleration sensor is installed and working properly, a yaw sensor is installed and working properly, and a steering wheel angle sensor is installed and working properly. An absolute value of the lateral acceleration sensor is compared with a first pre-defined threshold, an absolute value of the yaw sensor is compared with a second pre-defined threshold, and an absolute value of the steering wheel angle sensor is compared with a third pre-defined threshold. It is determined that primary circuit loss detection is not required when any of the three sensors are equal to and above the respective pre-defined thresholds and that primary circuit loss detection is required when all of the three sensors are below the respective pre-defined threshold.

Arrangement and method for preventing false detection of electronic stability control primary circuit loss

A vehicle stability control system operates by detecting a wheel speed potentially indicative of the presence of a mini-spare wheel at a wheel location of a vehicle with a wheel speed sensor and determines that a mini-spare tire is present responsive to the wheel speed remaining within a predefined band for predefined time. A threshold value that triggers action by a vehicle stability control system is adjusted to provide the mini-spare wheel with a value different than a wheel speed threshold value indicative of wheel slipping for a standard wheel.

Quick mini-spare detection

A vehicle includes a tone wheel having a plurality of encoding members spaced substantially evenly about a periphery thereof. Each tone wheel is rotates with an associated wheel. A fixed speed sensor is mounted adjacent to each tone wheel. The vehicle includes a brake system. A method determines a travel distance between adjacent encoding members. A required rolling distance of a vehicle from standstill is established. Maximum allowed interrupts per wheel is established, with an interrupt defined as each instance an encoding member passes an associated speed sensor. It is determined whether the vehicle is actually rolling from standstill. Once the vehicle is actually rolling, a number of interrupts is counted at each wheel. When the maximum allowed interrupts is counted at each wheel, the brake system is supplied with pressure increase to return the vehicle to, and hold the vehicle at, standstill prior to reaching the required rolling distance.

Rolling distance detection system and strategy for vehicle

A method identifies, for a vehicle, a low friction surface from a road surface with a slope. With the vehicle at standstill, the vehicle ignition is switched on. A normal load for the vehicle is calculated. It is determined if the vehicle is moving, and if the vehicle is moving, a vehicle load is calculated using suspension information from the vehicle. A road slope angle is calculated based on the calculated vehicle load and calculated normal load. A normal slope angle is calculated and is compared to the calculated road slope angle to determine if the vehicle is on a low friction surface or on a sloped surface. In accordance with another aspect of an embodiment, a method determines whether a trailer is coupled to a vehicle.
