Systems and methods are provided for forming a composite optical element having a transparent lens carrier and a lens attached to the transparent lens carrier. The lens is formed from liquid silicone rubber. The Young's modulus of the material of the lens carrier is higher than that of liquid silicone rubber. The lens carrier includes a plurality of surface features configured to interface with the transparent lens.

Composite optical element

An environmentally-sealed refractive lighting optic includes a single light-emitting diode (LED) printed circuit card that includes a plurality of LED components and a single, refractive optic element retained directly to the LED printed circuit card in a self-sealing manner without mechanical fasteners. The refractive optic element is configured to environmentally seal the LED components on the LED printed circuit card. Further, the refractive optic element may include a liquid silicone rubber material or an optically-clear low-pressure molded room temperature vulcanizing (RTV) silicone material.

Environmentally-sealed refractive lighting optic

Methods and systems of emitting different light from a multiple mode light emitting device are disclosed. An exemplary embodiment has a LED portion with a plurality of first LEDs and a plurality of second LEDs arranged in a first ring centered about a central axis, and a rotatable portion with a plurality of light conditioning elements arranged in a second ring centered about the central axis. The plurality of first LEDs emit and the plurality of second LEDs emit different types of light. Each light conditioning element receives and conditions light from one of the plurality of first LEDs when the light conditioning element is in a first position. Each light conditioning element receives and conditions light from one of the plurality of second LEDs when the light conditioning element is in a second position. The light conditioning elements may be reflector cups or may be lens.

Multiple mode light emitting device

A rear position light-emitting diode (LED) light module for use on an aircraft. The light module includes a single printed circuit board (PCB), at least one light emitting diode attached to a first surface of the PCB and a single reflector and baffle device attached to the PCB. The baffle device provides an illumination pattern having a predefined angular pattern in the first plane. The illumination pattern does not overlap with light illuminated by port and starboard position lights of the aircraft. The baffle device includes a base section being planar, the base section comprises a cavity, first and second side sections attached to a first surface of the base section on opposing sides of the cavity, the first and second side sections intersect the first plane but not the second plane and a plurality of snap fittings attached to a second side of the base section.

Modular LED based aircraft rear position light

An aircraft position light assembly having one or more light emitting diode (LED) modules. The LED module can be installed in a variety of aircraft wing-tip cavities. An example LED module includes a support device that mounts within an aircraft wingtip, a bracket device that attaches to the support device, at least one circuit board that mounts to the bracket, and two pairs of LEDs. Each pair of LEDs is mounted on opposing major surfaces at a first end of the circuit board. A first pair of reflectors is attached to the circuit board adjacent to two of the LEDs on the opposing major surfaces. A second pair of reflectors is attached to the circuit board adjacent to the other two LEDs on the opposing major surfaces.
