A nested drill bit assembly is disclosed for drilling a wellbore, comprising a parent bit and at least one child bit nested within the parent bit. Each bit in the nested drill bit assembly may be driven by a respective casing that gets cemented in place as part of a drilling with casing system. The parent bit and child bit(s) may be rotated together, with the parent bit and child bit collectively defining a contiguous cutting profile for drilling an initial segment of the wellbore. A driver is then lowered into the casing for connection to the child bit to drill beyond the parent bit. The driver may be configured as a drive bit for drilling through material leftover from a cementing operation prior to connecting to the child bit.

Nested drill bit assembly for drilling with casing

A wellbore dart can be used to activate a downhole tool within a wellbore to perform a function, such as shifting a sleeve. The dart includes a tool activator that is releasably connected to a body of the dart. After the downhole tool has been activated, the body can be released from the tool activator to open a fluid flow path within the downhole tool. A device can be pumped and land on the tool activator. The tool activator can include multiple sections that expand radially away from each other when force from the device is exerted on the sections. Expansion of the sections allows the device to pass through the tool activator. The dart can also include a retracting device that moves the sections back together after the device has passed through the tool activator.

A system, method, and tool for controlling fluid in a wellbore. The system comprises a tubing string locatable in the wellbore and a crossover tool for enabling reverse circulation in the wellbore. The crossover tool comprises a tool body, a sleeve, a drag block assembly, and a packer assembly. The tool body comprises a bore in fluid communication with the tubing string and a valve in the bore. The sleeve is located in the tool body and controls the valve based on the axial position of the sleeve in the tool body. The drag block assembly is coupled to the sleeve through the tool body and engages the wellbore to resist axial movement of the sleeve relative to the tool body. The packer assembly is coupled to the tool body and creates a fluid barrier in the annulus formed between the tubing string and the wellbore.

Systems and methods for controlling fluid flow in a wellbore using a switchable downhole crossover tool

Switchable cross-over systems, devices, and methods for cementing well walls are provided. A switchable cross-over device includes a tool body and a flow sleeve. The tool body includes a main tool path separable into uphole and downhole tool paths and an auxiliary chamber containing uphole and downhole annular ports. The flow sleeve is within the auxiliary chamber and movable between conventional and reverse circulation positions. In the conventional circulation position, the uphole and downhole tool paths are in fluid communication and the uphole annular port is in fluid communication with the downhole annular port through the auxiliary chamber. In the reverse circulation position, the flow sleeve forms first and second auxiliary flow paths in the auxiliary chamber, the uphole tool path and the downhole annular port are in fluid communication via the first auxiliary flow path, and the downhole tool path is in fluid communication with the uphole annular port.

Switchable crossover tools can include a tool body and a rotatable chamber. The tool body includes a main tool path separable into uphole and downhole tool paths and an auxiliary chamber containing uphole and downhole annular ports. The rotatable chamber is located and rotatable within the auxiliary chamber and forming first and second auxiliary flow paths through the auxiliary chamber. The rotatable chamber is positionable between a conventional circulation mode and a reverse circulation mode. In the conventional circulation mode, the uphole and downhole tool paths are in fluid communication and the uphole and downhole annular ports are in fluid communication through the auxiliary chamber. In the reverse circulation mode, the uphole tool path is in fluid communication with the downhole annular port via the first auxiliary flow path, and the downhole tool path is in fluid communication with the uphole annular port via the second auxiliary flow path.

A plug for use in a cementing operation in a borehole includes a tail segment and a nose segment separate from the tail segment. The plug also includes a coupler configured to couple the tail segment to the nose segment, in which the tail segment is movable with respect to the nose segment.

A method of filtering a wellbore fluid can include receiving a wellbore fluid in a chamber. The chamber can be defined by an inner surface of a casing string that is positioned downhole in a wellbore. The method can further include filtering debris particles from the wellbore fluid by a filter assembly positioned within an inner region of the casing string. The filter assembly may include a plurality of slots and the filter assembly may be rotated by the wellbore fluid passing through the plurality of slots in the filter assembly.

Various embodiments include methods and systems structured to provide an indication of the status of a cementing operation in a wellbore. Electromagnetic radiation from a source can be directed to a fluid region in or around a casing in a wellbore, where an electromagnetic response can be detected from interaction of the electromagnetic radiation in the fluid region. Presence or absence of cement in the fluid region can be determined based the electromagnetic response. Additional apparatus, systems, and methods can be implemented in a variety of applications.

Switchable cross-over systems, devices, and methods for cementing well walls. A switchable cross-over device includes a tool body, a flow sleeve, and a hydraulic sleeve. The tool body includes a main tool path separable into upper and lower tool paths and an auxiliary chamber containing upper and lower annular ports. The flow sleeve is within the auxiliary chamber and movable into a reverse circulation position by a plug traveling through the main tool path. The hydraulic sleeve is located within the main tool path and mechanically coupled to the flow sleeve. The hydraulic sleeve is movable into a conventional circulation position via pressure within the main tool path acting on the hydraulic sleeve.

Methods for cementing a well using a switchable crossover device

An apparatus can include a filter element that is positionable in a tubing string. The filter element can have a closed end and an open end. A plurality of slots can extend generally radially from the closed end to the open end of the filter element along a length of the filter element.

Flushing filter

A system, method, and tool for controlling fluid flow in a wellbore. The system comprises a tubing string locatable in the wellbore and a crossover tool for enabling reverse circulation in the wellbore. The crossover tool comprises a tool body, a packer assembly, a drag block assembly, and a sleeve. The tool body comprises a bore in fluid communication with the tubing string and a valve located in the bore. The packer assembly is coupled to the tool body and creates a fluid barrier in the annulus formed between the tubing string and the wellbore. The drag block assembly engages the wellbore and resists axial movement. The sleeve is located in the tool body and axially moveable relative to the drag block assembly. The drag block assembly is coupled to the sleeve, and axial movement of the sleeve relative to the drag block assembly rotates the sleeve to control the valve.

Systems and methods for controlling fluid flow in a wellbore using a switchable downhole crossover tool with rotatable sleeve

In accordance with embodiments of the present disclosure, a centralizer for aligning a tubular in a wellbore includes a stepped centralizer feature. The stepped centralizer feature includes a composite material with a stepped profile. That is, the stepped centralizer feature includes a first layer of the composite material having a convex rounded side for interfacing with the tubular, and a second layer of the composite material extending from the first layer. The first layer is wider than the second layer. The stepped centralizer feature may be a centralizer blade bonded to an outer surface of the tubular, or a stop collar used to hold a centralizer spring in place on the tubular. The stepped centralizer feature helps to distribute stress through the centralizer feature so that the centralizer feature does not crack or de-bond from the tubular in low temperature, high pressure environments.

An assembly can include a filter body having an open end and a closed end. The filter body can also include a plurality of perforations. A fan may be positionable within the filter body. The fan may include a mount that extends along a length of the fan. A blade may be coupled to and extend from the mount. The fan may also include an outer edge of the blade for contacting an inner surface of the filter body.

Self-cleaning filter

A material detection and sealing device includes a body comprising a bottom end and a top end, and configured to fit within a casing string. The device includes a valve located within the body configured to open and close an orifice formed through the body. The device also includes a density meter located on or within the body configured to continuously sense the density of a neighboring fluid. The valve is configured to close upon the density meter sensing a certain density condition.

Systems and method for reverse cementing

An assembly may include a diverter extending inwardly from a casing string and extending along a length of the casing string. The assembly may also include a cavity defined by the diverter and the casing string. The cavity may be for receiving debris particles accumulated by a centrifuge positioned proximate to the diverter. The assembly may also include a valve extending between an inner surface of the casing string and an outer surface of the casing string, the valve may be in fluid communication with the cavity.
