A ladar system capable of operating in a ladar mode and an optical communication mode is disclosed. When operating in the ladar mode, a ladar transmitter and ladar receiver cooperate to transmit ladar pulses that are used for ranging to targets in a field of view. When operating in an optical communication mode, ladar pulses are used to transmit data messages to locations in the field of view that are determined to have devices that are capable of receiving the optically communicated data messages.

Disclosed herein are a number of example embodiments that employ controllable delays between successive ladar pulses in order to discriminate between 'own' ladar pulse reflections and 'interfering' ladar pulses reflections by a receiver. Example embodiments include designs where a sparse delay sum circuit is used at the receiver and where a funnel filter is used at the receiver. Also, disclosed are techniques for selecting codes to use for the controllable delays as well as techniques for identifying and tracking interfering ladar pulses and their corresponding delay codes. The use of a ladar system with pulse deconfliction is also disclosed as part of an optical data communication system.

An identification device establishes a relative hierarchy of associated containers as logistical units, providing multi-layer visibility of nested and adjacent containers. The relative hierarchy comprises lower-layer containers and upper-layer containers relative to the identification device. An integrated reader device reads heterogeneous tag types. This allows disparate tag types simultaneously using a single device.

One embodiment includes a support configured to resiliently and removably grip a door hinge portion, with circuitry coupled to a wireless communication portion on an exterior side thereof. A different embodiment has a wireless communication portion with two antennas that is supportable on a container by a support so the antennas face in different directions externally of the container. Another embodiment has a detector on a support with a portion configured to extend through a gap between a door frame and a door, and has a blocking portion that can obstruct access to the gap and detector. A further embodiment includes a container with a wall and a movable door, and an antenna in a recess of the wall near the top of the container. Another embodiment includes a container with a door and a vent, and an antenna supported adjacent the vent.

Method and apparatus for increased container security

Systems and methods to provide multi-layer visibility of nested containers at a mobile checkpoint are disclosed. Thee systems include a portable deployment kit in communication with a nested container. The portable deployment kit can be contained in a durable carrying case having a total weight that is within military standards for carrying by one person and includes a handle. Inside, the carrying case can include foam or other material to protect internal components during transport and deployment. In use within the system, the portable deployment kit can serve as a self-contained checkpoint or site server for gathering necessary information from the nested container and uplinking for centralized data collection. In one embodiment, the portable deployment kit includes a label printer for updating an identification device on the nested container to reflect, for example, aggregation and deaggregation.

A container for locally determining a container state using a state device. The state device detects unexpected events by comparing expected event information with actual event information related to a container condition. The container condition includes, for example, environmental conditions, logistical or location conditions, and physical or security conditions. Thus, the container is able to intelligently monitor its state and raise an alert without intervention from a central system. The container can also be programmed and reprogrammed with updated logic, states, and/or expected event information. A sensor in the state device gathers input information for comparison to expected event information. A communication port in the state device receives event information. For example, a GPS (Global Positioning System) receiver can determine a current location for comparison to an expected location at the current time. In another example, an RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) receiver and transmitter automatically uploads state information to a central system.

A nested container establishes a relative hierarchy of associated containers as logistical units. The relative hierarchy comprises lower-layer containers and upper-layer containers relative to the nested container. To do so, the nested container sends interrogation signals to neighboring containers in order to retrieve identification information and layer information. Also, the nested container sends its own information identification information and layer information responsive to received interrogation signals. The nested container outputs the relative hierarchy to, for example, a site server or agent using a hand-held device. The identification module comprises, for example, an RFID (Radio Frequency IDentification) device.
