A process for the production of an ethylene alpha-olefin copolymer is disclosed. The process includes polymerizing ethylene and at least one alpha-olefin by contacting the ethylene and the at least one alpha-olefin with a metallocene catalyst in at least one gas phase reactor at a reactor pressure of from 0.7 to 70 bar and a reactor temperature of from 20&#xb0; C. to 150&#xb0; C. to form an ethylene alpha-olefin copolymer. The resulting ethylene alpha-olefin copolymer may have a density of 0.927 g/cc or greater and environmental stress crack resistance (ESCR) of 500 hr or more when measured according to ASTM 1693/B in 10% Igepal.

Ethylene alpha olefin copolymers and polymerization processes for making the same

Provided are blends of linear low density polyethylene copolymers with very low density, low density, medium density, high density, and differentiated polyethylenes and other polymers. The invention also includes articles produced from the linear low density polyethylene and polyethylene blends described herein.

Ethylene-alpha olefin copolymers and polymerization processes for making the same

Polyethylene blend compositions suitable for injection molding, injection molded articles, and processes for injection molding articles are provided. The polyethylene compositions include a first polyethylene having a melt index of 0.1 to 3.0 g/10 min and a density of from 0.905 to 0.938 g/cm; and a second polyethylene having a melt index of 10 to 500 g/10 min and a density of 0.945 to 0.975 g/cm. The compositions have a density of from 0.920 to 0.973 g/cmand a melt index of 2 to 200 g/10 min, and the density of the second polyethylene is from 0.037 to 0.062 g/cmgreater than the density of the first polyethylene. The compositions exhibit improved physical properties, such as Environmental Stress Crack Resistance, relative to conventional compositions of similar melt index and density. In certain embodiments, the compositions, and articles produced therefrom, also exhibit an improved balance of toughness properties and processability properties.

Polyethylene compositions for injection molding

Polyethylene blend compositions suitable for rotomolding, rotomolded articles, and processes for rotomolding articles are provided. The polyethylene compositions include a first polyethylene having a melt index of 0.4 to 3.0 g/10 min and a density of from 0.910 to 0.930 g/cm; and a second polyethylene having a melt index of 10 to 30 g/10 min and a density of 0.945 to 0.975 g/cm. The composition has a density of from 0.930 to 0.955 g/cmand a melt index of 1.5 to 12 g/10 min, and the first and second polyethylenes differ in density by from 0.030 to 0.048 g/cm. These compositions exhibit improved physical properties, such as Environmental Stress Crack Resistance and Izod Impact Strength. Articles produced from the compositions may also exhibit improved impact resistance properties, enhanced ductile break properties, and improved deflection resistance, which represents a combination of creep and fatigue resistance.

Polyethylene blend compositions suitable for rotomolding, rotomolded articles, and processes for rotomolding articles are provided. The polyethylene compositions include a first polyethylene having a melt index of 0.4 to 3.0 g/10 min and a density of from 0.910 to 0.930 g/cm; and a second polyethylene having a melt index of 10 to 30 g/10 min and a density of 0.945 to 0.975 g/cm. The composition has a density of from 0.930 to 0.955 g/cmand a melt index of 1.5 to 12 g/10 min, and the first and second polyethylenes differ in density by from 0.030 to 0.048 g/cm. These compositions exhibit improved physical properties, such as Environmental Stress Crack Resistance and Izod Impact Strength.

A method for grafting maleic anhydride groups to the surface of polyolefins s described. The method uses an excited inert gas phase species in contact with the polyolefin and solid maleic anhydride. The surface functionality is identified by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and transmission Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. The modified polyolefin has an increased ability to form a thermal bond with metals, including aluminum.

Plasma assisted grafting of maleic anhydride to polyolefins

Low viscosity ethylene acrylic copolymers and blends thereof with other fiber-forming polymers for spunbond and melt blown nonwoven applications. Ethylene/alkyl (meth) acrylate, especially ethylene/methyl acrylate copolymers are found to be suitable for fiber-forming operations, especially melt blowing when the melt index is at least about 10. Blends of the copolymer with other fiber-forming polymers are especially suitable for fiber-forming operations. The nonwoven products of the copolymers and blends of the invention show a good degree of elongation making them especially suitable for certain fabric applications and new uses. The nonwoven fabrics are comprised of fibers of the copolymers and blends, having a diameter of about 1-40 microns. Larger fibers may also be formed by various techniques.
