One or more users wear respective wireless headsets or visors that allow the users to see a 3D rendered virtual reality environment emulating the physical space in which the user(s) are located and move. A user is allowed to move freely throughout the physical space while playing. The virtual reality environment that is rendered for a user is based on the user's physical movements. The virtual reality environment rendered for a user shows virtual objects where the corresponding physical objects are located so that as the user moves around the objects in the virtual environment the user also moves around the physical objects in the physical space. The floor of the physical space may be made of movable segments that move according to game play instructions.

Near real-time augmented reality video gaming system

In one aspect, an LED display includes a matrix of LED pixels for producing a demanded image, and within the matrix, one or more sensor elements to detect visible light for document scanning, and/or IR light, and/or laser light. IR emitters also can be part of the matrix for time-of-flight based distance measurements using the matrix. The matrix background can be black or it can be e-ink to present, e.g., interactive user controls.

Ultrafine LED display that includes sensor elements

In one aspect, each pixel of a holographic display screen emits light in a narrow angle, and micro-mirrors control the angle in which the light is emitted. The light that is emitted is modulated so that the image for the left eye is emitted when the pixel is pointed by means of its micro mirror at a viewer's left eye and light for the image for the right eye is emitted when the pixel is pointed at the viewer's right eye.

Holographic display screen

In one aspect, a prism is used to separate white light into individual color components, which are used to illuminate an object in sequence. This can be effected by rotating the prism. Reflections from the object are captured by a high resolution black and white camera. A frequency detector is used to also receive the individual colors that illuminate the object so that the high-resolution pixels from the black and white camera can be correlated, for each captured value, to the specific color reflected from the object that created the pixel. In this way, the color spectrum of the object can be measured with high precision. Other examples that use stationary prisms also are disclosed. Examples are disclosed in which the prism(s) receive white light from the object and spread it in color components onto the imager.
