Video is obtained in a video conference session that includes one or more participants in a video conference room, wherein the video conference room includes a video display and a one video camera, and wherein a participant is remote with respect to the video conference room. During the video conference session, it is determined that video captured by the camera in the video conference room includes a face of a person not physically present in the video conference room and which face is displayed on the video display. Video of each participant in the video conference room is assigned to a respective video layout window except for video of the face of the person not physically present in the video conference room that is displayed on the video display.

Managing noise during an online conference session includes obtaining audio data from an endpoint participating in an online conference session. The audio data is derived from audio captured at the endpoint that includes musical sounds. The audio data is processed to identify a portion of the audio data in which a decibel level of the musical sounds is stable for a period of time. Non-musical noise present, if any, in the audio data with the musical sounds is identified and the non-musical noise is attenuated from the audio data to generate noise-reduced musical audio data. The noise-reduced musical audio data is transmitted for play out at one or more other endpoints participating in the online conference session.

Disclosed is a method that includes receiving an audio video stream, decoding the audio video stream to yield decoded video and decoded audio, transmitting the decoded video on a video cable to a display, transmitting a signal, such as, for example, a signal on an audio channel of the video cable, identifying an impulse response based on a received signal responsive to the transmitting of the signal, identifying a delay amount based on the impulse response and transmitting the decoded audio to a loudspeaker according to the delay amount. A system and method for detecting cell phone noise induced in telecommunication equipment, especially in microphones and other unshielded electronic units connected to a communication terminal. A noise detector is configured to execute a so-called 'cepstrum' transform of a captured signal exposed to cell phone noise. Due to the characteristics of cell phone radio signals using TDMA, cell phone induced can then easily be detected from the cepstrum transform as peaks at known samples, and noise elimination or attenuation may then be executed on the captured signal when cell phone noise is detected.

An audio communication system and method with improved acoustic characteristics features a stereo detector that is introduced in the echo canceller of the system. When stereo in far-end audio is detected, converging of the adaptive mono model of the canceller is suspended, and when stereo in far-end audio is not detected, converging of the adaptive stereo model of the canceller is suspended. The system may also be extended with a miscellaneous processing unit configured to attenuate the signal at certain events implying a large stereo echo contribution. A stereo collapsing unit is also introduced on the channels of the far-end audio to remove the stereo image at certain events to further suppress the echo contribution.
