A method and device are provided for detecting when a closing point of a hydraulic valve has been reached. The valve has a closing element operated by an electric actuator. A predetermined voltage for closing the valve is applied to the actuator. A profile of a current flowing through the actuator is detected. Based on a first increase in the profile corresponding to the valve being at least partially open, a subsequent decrease in the profile corresponding to the closing element carrying out a movement to close the valve, and a second increase in the profile following said decrease in the profile, a local minimum of the detected current is determined between the decrease and the second increase in the profile. Depending on the local minimum of the detected current, a closing point is then determined which corresponds to a time point of the local minimum of the detected current.

A method for operating an injection system has the following steps: determining, based on a pilot control characteristic, a prefeed value depending on an internal combustion engine operating parameter; initializing a correction value for the prefeed pump by a safety value predetermined for compensating deviations from a predetermined delivery behavior of the prefeed pump, which deviations lie within a predetermined tolerance range, for guaranteeing a sufficient pump delivery rate; controlling the prefeed pump depending on the prefeed and the correction values; adapting the correction value effecting the delivery behavior of the prefeed pump depending on a variable of the system the value or value curve of which indicates that a desired pressure can be generated in the fuel accumulator, namely in the sense of reducing the delivery output of the prefeed pump, as long as the value indicates that the desired pressure can be generated in the fuel accumulator.

A fuel injection system for an internal combustion engine has a fuel distributor (), in the interior space () of which is formed a high-pressure accumulator, wherein transverse bores () open into the interior space (). The transverse bores () are connected by connecting pipes () to pressure lines () for the supply and discharge of fuel. A high-pressure sensor () is arranged at the face-side end of the fuel distributor (), which high-pressure sensor () is connected by a measurement bore () to the interior space (), and a permanent magnet ring is arranged at that face-side end of the interior space () which is assigned to the high-pressure sensor ().
