A method and apparatus is provided for performing initial ranging at a receiver for establishing a time reference for a predefined received signature signal () for establishing a time reference overcoming round trip time between a receiver and a transmitter. There is performed () matched filtering in at least two matched sub-filters (M, M, M, M), each sub-filter having a matched filter sub-sequence () corresponding to a fragment () of the basic sequence () of the predefined signature signal (), wherein the fragments do not overlap one another with respect to the basic sequence, the matched filtering by each respective sub-filter providing peaks in dependence of the respective sub-sequence () correlating with a respective fragment of the received signature signal.

Method and apparatus for initial ranging for establishing a time reference for a predefined signature signal

The present invention describes a channel equalizer and a method for channel equalization in a receiver in a multi-user communication system. The method comprises the steps of receiving a signal with at least two antennas to produce at least two antenna input streams, measuring the temporal of each antenna input stream and the spatial correlation between the antenna input streams, determining a user-independent pre-equalization filter from the temporal and spatial correlation, filtering the antenna input streams with the pre-equalization filter, and finally inputting the filtered signal to a user-dependent receiver configured to detect the received data symbols of a given user.

Spatial and temporal pre-equalization

A memory arrangement is provided having a plurality of memory elements, the elements being associated with a memory space that can be addressed in a row and column fashion during a write or a read access. The memory arrangement further includes a first macro bank comprising a first plurality of memory cells comprising a first subset of the memory elements and a second macro bank comprising a second plurality of memory cells comprising a second subset of the memory elements. The memory arrangement further includes an address resolution stage for addressing the memory cells in the respective macro banks. The memory cells are arranged so that the memory space is partitioned into a plurality of non-overlapping basic matrices, whereby each basic matrix is mapped to a given macro bank and wherein the memory cells are arranged logically so that the memory space is partitioned into a plurality of non-overlapping logic matrices of a given size, each logic matrix being of a size equal or larger than a basic matrix.
