A method for estimating grid properties of a power grid coupled to a generator at a point of common coupling is provided. First, a voltage Vat the point of common coupling is measured. Second, a current Iat the point of common coupling is measured. Third, the grid properties are estimated by a grid model using as input parameters the measured voltage Vat the point of common coupling, the measured current Iat the point of common coupling and the determined phase angle. Advantageously, the absolute phases of the voltage and the current at the point of common coupling are not necessary, which makes the present method less prone to errors due to measurement noise. Further, a device and a computer program product are provided.

The wind turbine is arranged within a wind farm coupled to a public power network via a point of common coupling. A power distribution system for distributing electric power generated by a wind farm between an AC power transmission link and a DC power transmission link is provided. Both power transmission links connect the wind farm to a substation of a power grid. The power distribution system includes a central wind farm controller and a distribution device. In response to a control signal from the central wind farm controller, the distribution device distributes the generated electrical power between the two power transmission links. It is further described a power transmission system with the above described power distribution system and a method for distributing electric power between an AC power transmission link and a DC power transmission link.

The present invention relates to a method for operating a converter system of a wind turbine, wherein the converter system includes converter modules capable of converting electric power produced by a generator to electric power applicable to a utility grid. The converter modules include generator inverters and grid inverters. The method determines the enabling/disabling of the converter modules in response to a parameter related to the variable amount of electric power being produced by the generator. Advantages of the present invention are optimisation of power efficiency of the converter modules and improved reliability of the converter modules. Another advantage is the capability of fast enabling and disabling of the converter modules.
