In the application a spray dryer absorption apparatus for treating a stream of flue gas containing acidic components is disclosed. The apparatus comprises a chamber having vertical cylindrical walls, said chamber comprises (i) an inlet for a flue gas stream containing an acidic component, (ii) an atomizer for spraying droplets of an absorbent slurry into said flue gas stream to effect a chemical reaction between the droplets and the acidic component of the flue gas, thereby forming a particulate reaction product, and (iii) an outlet for the treated flue gas and entrained particulate reaction product, wherein the bottom of the chamber having vertical cylindrical walls is substantially horizontal and impervious to gases. The apparatus of the invention has the advantage of a simplified geometry accounting for lower building and maintenance costs.

Spray dryer absorption apparatus with flat-bottomed chamber

Disclosed herein is a method for reducing the amount of coarser particles from a stream of flue gas prior to treatment by a spray dryer absorption process (SDA). The method comprises the steps of directing a stream of flue gas containing entrained particles of varying sizes through a curve, thereby subjecting the particles to a centrifugal effect, collecting the particles predominately of the coarser size at a particles collecting means provided in the outer circumference of the curve, dispersing the flue gas reduced in particles of coarse particle sizes into the chamber of a spray dryer absorption apparatus, wherein the particles content of the original flue gas stream is above 20 g/Nm. Also an apparatus for performing the method and a gas disperser is disclosed. The method substantially reduces the cost of the entire plant for treating flue gas having a high content of entrained coarse particles by eliminating the need for a particle pre-collector upstream the SDA.

Spray dryer absorption process for flue gas with entrained coarse particles

A desulphurization process, in which acid components of waste gas are removed by spray drying absorption, using an aqueous suspension of slaked lime or limestone as absorbent with recycling of part of the reaction product to the absorbent, is controlled on the basis of determination of the chloride content of the aqueous suspension including recycled reaction product. The chloride content of the absorbent is used as the basis for (a) controlling the amount of chloride in the aqueous suspension to such a value that a specific chloride content of the spray dried product is between 1 and 7% by weight, and, within this range is related to the difference between the temperature of the desulphurized waste gas and the adiabatic saturation temperature thereof, and/or (b) for controlling the quantity of water evaporated by the spray drying, which is also related to the set forth chloride content, to change the difference between the temperature of the desulphurized waste gas and the adiabatic saturation temperature thereof, to provide a minimum temperature difference so as to maximize the acid base reaction yet maintain an actual temperature difference high enough to avoid sticky products.
