An elevator system includes a car which can move in an elevator shaft and has a car roof which has a walkable region. A safety element is arranged in the region of a roof edge of the car roof for reducing the gap between the elevator shaft wall and the car in order to protect people from falling into the elevator shaft. The safety element has a toe board section for creating a toe protection and for laterally bordering the walkable region, wherein the toe board section is arranged such that it is inwardly offset in relation to an outer edge of the safety element and in relation to the roof edge by a safety distance.

A shaft access enabling device of an elevator system has a shaft access control unit and at least one access monitoring unit, wherein the shaft access control unit controls an operating state of the at least one access monitoring unit and the access monitoring unit monitors at least one shaft access. The shaft access control unit has at least two different operating modes for controlling the operating state of the at least one access monitoring unit and inspects access authorization before changing between the at least two operating modes thereof.

A circuit () for resetting a component () within an elevator safety chain (). The reset circuit () comprises a first reset switch (), a second reset switch () and a door contact (). A guide device for an elevator car has a guide shoe that is displaceable by a linear guide that is arranged on the elevator car. Should the elevator car in an extreme situation travel beyond the uppermost floor, the guide shoe is arrested by a projecting console, and the elevator car travels past the console. The linear guide permits the guide shoe to execute a movement relative to the elevator car. Thus, the elevator car, or parts thereof, utilizes the hoistway headroom that is provided for the drive unit or other hoistway equipment. The counterweight can be provided with the displaceable guide shoe for utilizing the hoistway pit in a similar manner.
