An optical film is provided which comprises a disperse phase of polymeric particles disposed within a continuous birefringent matrix. The film is oriented, typically by stretching, in one or more directions. The size and shape of the disperse phase particles, the volume fraction of the disperse phase, the film thickness, and the amount of orientation are chosen to attain a desired degree of diffuse reflection and total transmission of electromagnetic radiation of a desired wavelength in the resulting film.

Optical film with co-continuous phases

An optical film is provided which comprises a disperse phase of polymeric particles disposed within a continuous birefringent matrix in combination with light directing materials to enable control of light emitted from a lighting fixture or display. The film is oriented, typically by stretching, in one or more directions. The size and shape of the disperse phase particles, the volume fraction of the disperse phase, the film thickness, and the amount of orientation are chosen to attain a desired degree of diffuse reflection and total transmission of electromagnetic radiation of a desired wavelength in the resulting film, and the light directing materials are chosen to control the direction of polarized light reflected from or transmitted by the optical film.

An optical film is provided which comprises an antireflective layer and a disperse phase of polymeric particles disposed within a continuous birefringent matrix. The film is oriented, typically by stretching, in one or more directions. The invention relates to a method of making a conductive thermoplastic composition containing at least one dispersed phase polymer with a continuous phase polymer and at least one conductivity imparting agent wherein the bulk resistivity of the composition is at least partially determined by the particle size of the dispersed phase within the continuous phase. The thermoplastic composition preferably comprises a compatibilized blend of at least one polyphenylene ether resin, at least one polyamide resin, and at least one conductivity imparting agent, and optionally, one or more of impact modifiers, stabilizers, antioxidants, lubricants, and fillers.

The invention relates to a method of enhancing the surface appearance of articles made from an impact modified composition of a compatibilized polyphenylene ether-polyamide resin blend. The impact modified composition contains from about 5% to less than 50% by weight polyphenylene ether resin with from about 0.7% to about 1.1% by weight of a non-polymeric aliphatic polycarboxylic acid or derivative thereof and from about 5% to about 15% by weight of an elastomeric block copolymer, and from about 45% to about 90% of a polyamide resin, wherein the polyamide resin has an amine endgroup to acid endgroup ratio of at least about 1.0, and wherein all weights are based on the total weight of the composition.
